I don't take issue with what he said either actually. Here is why.
Let's say you are trying to have an intelligent conversation and people start name-calling in the thread. That is very disruptive to a good thread.
On the other hand, there is no value in a thread like this. He chose to post his getting drunk, driving well past the speed limit and hitting a wall story for everyone to see. He should expect to get flamed for it and we all can expect it to happen. Yes there are some questionable posts in the thread but IMHO that thread should have went straight to the trash. What good does that thread do anyone.

Do you see my point?

I understand that it is a pain in the a$$ to clean up threads and to try to keep things civil at times ... kind of like herding a group of 4 year olds around at the zoo. But, IMO that is part of the responsibility of being a mod. It's mostly a thankless PITA, since when you do things right you generally go unnoticed and when you get too drastic you get nothing but complaints. But, hey, just like nobody is forcing us to be on this site, nobody is forcing anyone to be a mod...

Having said that, I'd like to say a big thanks to Speedlimit for being one of the most levelheaded mods I've seen yet.

And to all the mods: Please don't delete threads. If a thread turns into a flame fest, lock it, clean it, and either re-open it or keep it locked, but don't delete good info.

l8r)
I don't think any of the mods delete quality threads but having one or two good posts at the begining and then pages of trash doesn't constitute a good thread.
If a thread is too far gone I will usually try to contact the OP and let them know I want to delete it and tell them they are free to restart the thread.

There is no easy way to clean a thread. You either have to do it post by post or one big pages of posts that don't have the full content for you to be able to weed out the bad posts. This is one of the reasons we are so adament about reporting threads that are going downhill so we can clean them and take corrective action before it's too late. Unfortunately some members either abuse the report a post or report it but still engage in the flame-fest.

And this is not necessarily directed at you. I thought I would say something since you brought up the topic.

I most ceratinly do. I can go into the off topic section and run you a list of over 10 thread off the top of my head that have no value, except but for post whoring and what not. My point is that when you selectivley enforce a rule you give the PERCEPTION of not doing a fair and equitable job. Then you throw into the mix a comment that could be misunderstood to mean something other then what the mod meant it to and it looks like "WE DONT FOLLOW THE RULES, WE JUST MAKE YOU FOLLOW THEM" and thats a dangerous situation. I'm not saying I dont agree with alot of whats in that thread, but kust like freedom of speech in america, its a double edged sword. You have to accept that there are gonna be topics you dont agree with, but you cant show favortism for either side....being impartial in the face of stupidity. LOL

It was discussed between the Admins and Super Mods, SPT probably doesn't remember with everything he has going on.

I banned Vegasboy and I tried to talk to the Vegas guys at the time but no one wanted to leave it alone, therefore many more got banned for not being able to follow the rules.

The AMS videos were removed.
I am one of the people that drove the street racing video ban back when it was instituted. It was posted all over the site and it is a zero tolerance policy. Long time members should know better so they are more likely to be banned for it then a first timer. I don't want to re-open the arguement because the video is open to interpretation. My two points were, sped up or not the Evos were traveling at least twice the speed of the other cars on the road. The donuts speak for themselves.

Kilterman,

It's about time you apologized. j/k
I don't even remember now what the beef was.

How can you tell the vid was sped up. You perceived it one way, and pretty much the entire site perceived it another. There were alot of people who were in shock when vegasboi got banned for that vid.

Whoa wait off-topic doesn't count. All the threads there are useless, that's the point.
I am talking about the meat and potatoes threads of the site. And like I said IMO it is not selective enforcement the whole thread should have been trashed. I agree others will see that think it is okay because it is NOT an OT thread. In fact I will delete it.

I never said it was sped up originally. I said they were traveling at least twice the speed of the other vehicles on the road. The video being sped up was the arguement I got. Unless someone has very unique editing skills to speed up just the evos in the video the arguement doesn't hold water either way.

I ment to say about the speeding, not the vid being sped up, which it was.

Yes, I'm not saying we're perfect. The AMS thing lead to a lot of discussion before action was finally taken, as I recall.

As it's been showing up repeatedly in this thread, things are subjective. People don't all make the same choices.

Bottom line is this - you're expecting perfect robots to moderate the site. We do not have that. We have simple, normal imperfect human beings doing moderation. For free, in their spare time. Try to remember that.

No I'm not. I'm expecting honestly and equal treatment for all. Thats all.

I understand that. But understand that you're dealing with people. People are not perfect. Sometimes we feel differently than you, sometimes we miss things, sometimes we screw up.
