Gauging intrest on getting John to come back down here and do some tuning. Most of you guys know how well my car runs on his tune and the gas mileage that I get (320-330mpg a tank). A bunch of you have asked me when he's coming back down so here it is.

how in the world do you get 320+ miles on a tank of gas?
i promise you it is not from a tune.... i only managed 310 miles on my last tank, and that was 250 miles of highway at 75mph (running dead on 14.7afr). i soppose if your 320 miles on a tank was all highway with no throttle modulation it would be easy... but i saw you driving in the parking lot :P you drive like me!

haha. John tuned me to get good gas mileage last time he was in town. on dynoflashes tune I got 21 mpg at the most, no matter what i did. Even drove out to to dallas one weekend and couldnt get above 21. With Johns tune on a mix of city driving I got 320. That was including some racing too :x I don't like filling up all the way but I'll do it tonight and take another picture when I get low for you guys. Most everyone has already seen pictures off my phone of my gas mileage (no i didn't fake them) and no, its from the tune. lol.

well the first thing about the tune is, when you are idling and cruising you are using closed loop operation in the ECU. you cannot tune this, the ECU simply always targets 14.7 A/F as long as you don't mash on the pedal and go into open loop operation.
if somehow jestr magically can modify the closed loop targets and makes it 17or greater a/f ratio, he would make a killing tuning everyones car without a cat. granted running lean isn't to good for your engine, you would get better gas mileage. the only other ways to improve mileage is to improve the Volumetric efficiency of the engine, something a tune cannot do. VE is simply a matter of how the engine is designed, cam specs, lift, overlap, porting, back pressure... that kind of stuff. last, driving habits are the easiest way to improve mileage. obviously not using the throttle as often will help. anytime you tip in, your going rich from 14.7 which means your using more fuel. certainly tuning the open loop tables can improve mileage. there is no doubt about that. the leaner you run it the better the mileage you'll get. but this is only going to apply for when you are accelerating rapidly and using those open loop tables.
i know it is possible to disable the front o2 sensor and run entirely on the open loop tables, but i can't see jestr doing that with a reflash. it would take a good amount of tuning to make sure the car doesn't run to lean and highway speeds/city speeds and idle. any ideas what jestr did? or did he simply tune your car and now you regularly get 320 miles on a tank.

i am interested as long as i can get tuned with the power fc.
any time would work for me, but over thanksgiving would be best(if im not staying here for a semester)
i wish i got that good of gas mileage, mines horible, i use a quarter of a tank just driving to work and back.
i need a race gas tune also
