E85'ed up by KevinD
hate to steal a tread or beat a dead horse but I am planing on having Kevin Kevin Tune me on E85, I currently have a 255pump, 1600cc injectors. I know that the stock ecu can not handle 1600cc injectors, or can it handle it under the E85 conditions? Mods are 2.4 4g64 stroker with .63trim turbo? A hint(50 shot) wet Nitrous. Now does this mean I can remove my meth kit, or can I use both?
Kevin can correct me if I am wrong, but I strongly suspect that meth injection won't do much for an E85 equipped car. All the stuff you get out of meth (higher octane, greater intake charge cooling, faster burning), you can get by just putting more E85 in there.
As far as how E85 works, it's very similar to meth. You don't have to mess with a whole other system, and E85 can be had at some gas stations (whereas I admit to having no idea where you actually buy methanol). But E85 does mean less MPG (although miles per dollar is about the same) and the fact that some stations change the blend in the winter to lower ethanol percentage, possibly requiring you to run lower boost or in the worst case retune.

but is Kevin taking a trip to NY?and man I bet your car is a ROCKET!
Here is a link that has all of the up-to-date E85 stations: http://e85vehicles.com/e85-stations.htm. This is by far the best pound-for-pound, early-on upgrade for the EVO. For the original poster, did you just have Kevin install the injectors, drive to get some E85, hit the road for a custom tune, and that was it? How much did it cost as I see Kevin is enjoying a much-needed vacation.
Drives: 2008 EVO X coming soon!!! 2008 Victory Red C6 ZO6, 06 Apex Silver Evo MR, 1999 Ford F250, 2002 Ford F350, 1993 Honda Del Sol, 1999 and 2006 Yamaha R1
George, no more cars im jealous.
but, on topic, real soon here kevin is installing my precision 880's, and 255fp with a e85 tune. cant wait
ill make sure and hit the dyno asap, if anybody else would like to join perhaps we can make a dyno day somewhere and try and get a deal.
pure evo: 880cc injectors or 1000's you can probably get for $300 or so. mbc $100 or less. 255lph $90. kevin has install and tune prices on his site.
in relation to e85, i went with a forge rs diverter valve to hold boost better, tbolt clamps, and plan on getting a wideband to monitor a/f ratio.

For the immediate future, would the stock injectors be sufficient for a stock VIII? I would like to take advantage of the benefits considering I have an E85 station less than five miles from my house.
its only 90$ for a 255 walbro and about $300 for 880cc or 1000cc injectors. you wont see a huge increase on the stock injectors i dont think. e85 burns really fast you need to pump lots more fuel into the engine.
stock injectors wont work with e85. you need much bigger ones, 30% more for the same boost level (and obviously you'll want to turn the boost up). chad was at 95% duty cycle on his 880cc injectors.
not much. the E85 is a large % alcohol already so the methanol wont add a significant amount of power. really its just time for you to get a bigger turbo and make a big difference in power
i have a 35r kit at the house still for sale. 1500 is the going price... 300 for install and 150 for the tune

Understood. I was just checking to make sure that I wasn't missing anything. Check your PM as I have a few thoughts about future plans to share with you for some feedback.
