Mitsubishi Motors hopes redesigned Eclipse will rev up sales - report

TOKYO (AFX) - Mitsubishi Motors Corp hopes its redesigned Eclipse will start a turnaround of its brand, the Wall Street Journal reported, quoting Mike Krebs, vice-president of product planning for the struggling Japanese automakers' North American sales unit.
Krebs expects sales of the new Eclipse to reach about 30,000 vehicles in its first year on the market, up from just over 19,000 vehicles last year but down from the model's peak sales of more than 50,000 a few years ago, the Journal said.
Mitsubishi Motors recently began producing the redesigned Eclipse at its plant in Normal, Illinois, and it arrived in US dealer showrooms this month.
The four-cylinder base model is priced at 19,493 usd, and MMC also plans to sell a more expensive V6 version of the coupe.
While aimed at American consumers, Krebs said Mitsubishi Motors may export the car to Europe.
Mitsubishi Motors also plans to re-enter the pickup truck market this year by introducing a mid-size pickup in mid-October, followed by the launch of the Spyder, a convertible version of the Eclipse, in the first quarter of 2006, the Journal said.

Mistsubishi lost sight of what a decent car looks like in the last few years - much to their detriment as that's what drives sales with joe public!

And you have female co-workers come up and see it pokin out and give you funny looks!! And it seems that only the really ugly ones are the ones that make perverted comments on it, and you wish it was the fine azz secretary in the main office?!! Damn....
