I took my car to Firestone tire to get a small nail hole patched, and I asked them if they could do a test drive and tell me if the squeal with the brakes are normal. I ran errands and then they called me and said the brakes are definitely not supposed to make that loud of a noise, and that I had a right to be concerned. After agreeing to a little bit of shop time for them to look/diagnose it, they said the problem was the shims. He said that the shims had shown signs of previous use (which they had been, I reused them from my stock brake pads since the new hawk ones did not come with shims). He said in this case, the shims were working against me and not for me; said they were not required, they were just a preferential thing but in my case it's best to leave them off, so they took them off (of the front two wheels). After that, I heard small squeals, which I'm fine with, and I did hear one big squeal once, but I think that may be from the back calipers.

So my question is, is it safe to run with no shims and see if that reduces the noise, or should I immediately look for new shims to install? (yes the backs of the pads where they make contact with the pistons is greased now too).

I dont see it being a problem. But I would invest in some good shims to put in like the Racing Brake shims. The factory wouldnt have put them in the car from stock if they wasnt needed.

Here is those brake shims http://www.racingbrake.com/EVO_STi_F...r_p/bs1001.htm

Oh my god they're worse now than they were before. STUUUUUUUUPID loud. To the point of considering taking the CATS :X

I called the shop and told them whatever they did made it worse, so I'm going to take it back in to them on friday. God I hope it gets fixed. Otherwise I'm gonna have to figure out something to do to fix it after I get back from Japan, I don't have time to deal with it now though. ARGH!

We are talking about going to the Ncye1's race in Fayetteville on Sept 11, if anyone want to come with. I am also planning a Tail of the Dragon trip sometime in September, so let me know if any of you guys are interested.

Hopefully the event wont get rained out again...

We will have the RV setup as well and I think Matt's car will be ready to run by then... it will be crunch time the last couple days to get her that way.

Everyone is welcome to stop by there as well.

In the booth hell!! LOL. He's got a car to race and try to win some $$$!

Hey Charlotte area guys it's been too damn silent here lately. This would be a good chance for us to get together and caravan down. Who all is down for going. It will be night racing on Saturday, so you can get a room for that night and then come back as early as you want on Sunday. Also was thinking about trying to do another area meet at my house maybe sometime around the first couple weeks of October. Let me know what you guys think.

With the toddler and baby, going out of town is usually out of the question.

I think your suggestion of having another local meet first half of October sounds good though, the weather will be perfect by then.
