Yeah, I knew when I saw another EB it had to be you.

Didn't know there was one. I hate going to the dealer. Had to take my truck over to GM & got bent over!

I scheduled mine. They said it'll take a couple weeks to get the parts in, and it's an all day job. Great

So if it's an old day job, the dash has to be removed so both air bags are replaced? My dash & steering column are both out of my car now, I should bring them over to Mitsubishi haha. After my car is back together, I don't want them touching ****...

All day job? That sucks. The notice said the job would take a couple of hours, but the dealer may need to keep it a "little longer."

I guess what it amounts to is the dealer is going to focus on the money jobs and not the free warranty/recall service, so they'll fit us in when the money jobs are done...

I brought my car to Automotive Performance and Chassis (formerly Performance Chassis) yesterday to have some new rotors/pads installed, brake fluid, and alignment. I have advocated and recommended them for years, and their service is still top-notch.

I will say, however, that the labors costs seem to have increased significantly. The total for the above service (brake job/alignment), came to $630. Perhaps labor costs have gone up across the board, and this is now typical, but I have to admit I got a little sticker-shock when I heard the total. That was $630 for 100% labor, as I supplied the rotors, fluid, and pads.

By contrast, the last time I was there for brakes and alignment, I believe I paid in the neighborhood of $300 (this was a few years ago), which is kind of what I was expecting this time as well. Granted, that was still my stock rotors, but they did take them off to have them turned, so labor/effort seems like it should have been about the same.

I take responsibility, as I did not ask for a quote beforehand...but I just didn't expect that much of a disparity between previous and current costs.

In my younger life I would do this kind of work myself, but I blew out my back in 2010, and just can't physically handle much more than general maintenance anymore.

I want to reiterate that I still feel their service for chassis/alignment work is unsurpassed, and I trust them implicitly with my car, but I will definitely be getting a quote before any further work is done, and it may impact my decision making process in the future.

Just sharing an experience...

That's kinda how I felt.

Does anyone happen to have Jim's personal phone number? I don't think he comes on here too much anymore, and I'd like to run this by him since he's part-owner of the shop now.

Thanks!

Anyone have a tactrix cable they can spare for a few days? I'll come to you and bring it back. Mine is fun at (it is 5 years old).

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised at the price you paid. Since Jim is part owner, after moving back to the area I was hoping to use Automotive Performance Chassis for random stuff I didn't feel like doing myself or anything related to tires/alignments. Unfortately after receiving quotes on a couple things that won't be the case. Price wise, their labor rates is $95/hr & an alignment is $99.

I am an Amsoil dealer so I always use that in my truck & wife's car. Since my evo is in pieces in the garage I called & asked them what they would charge for an oil change & tire rotation with me suppling the oil & filter. Oil change was $47.50 & tire rotation was $50. Yes you read those prices correctly & that was with me suppling the oil & filter! So the wife's car ended up going to Hendrix Kia & I did my truck.

However, I did take my truck to APC to have them do front & rear sway bar bushings & end links and also an alignment. I supplied the parts again & they quoted me an hour & a half labor. I was fine with that quote as the truck was a northern vehicle & I figured it may be a bi*ch to get some of the stock parts off, which it was, haha. After the alignment the steering wheel is off center & slightly to the left so I need to go back & have them fix that. I've mainly been in contact with Nick, who I am assuming is the shop manager & I have nothing bad to say about him, nice guy & good customer service from him. I've also spoken to Jim a couple times on Facebook about the prices I was quoted.

With all that being said, you paid $630 total. $630 - $99 (alignment) = $531. I'm willing to guess up to $30 of that was "shop supplies" etc. So lets say you paid $500 in labor for everything. So $500 / $95 = Around 5.25 hrs of labor. In my opinion & as Justin said, 5.25 hrs to do what you had done is ridiculous. I like Jim & I like the shop but the prices they are quoting and/or charging is a bit nuts. From this point on our vehicles will only go there for the mounting & balancing of new tires & alignments.
