ALABAMA.. who is all here?
i bought my clutch through TopSpeed in Ga. and had SpeedSouth in birmgham put it in. would not go there though. they are a great shop dont get me wrong but they are VERY expensive. plus the guy that did it no longer works there.
ACT makes great stuff.......clutches are like Altezza tails...a dime a dozen....lol....some people swear by this brand others hate that brand.
Installs usually go for $500-$700 at a reputable shop, decent clutch and flywheel $500-$700. Any way you choose make sure someone backs up their work. To me it was money well spent to have the clutch installed, mine went bad after only a few thousand miles, the company and installer backed them up and fixed the problem. I was the guinea pig since I was the first MR this company had ever made a clutch for. The twin disc is little more complicated, especially since it was a push/pull conversion. A single 6-puck will do everything you can throw at and then some, reasonable, etc...Cesar had the Spec Sprung 6-puck installed by Danny over at Spec, I know Cesar was really pleased with it. He ran a PB into the 11's on it, very well mannered street clutch. My Twin while is easy on the foot, is a monster in stop and go because it is a bit grabby. But you have to expect that from a 1100ft/lb clutch.

Yeah, Speedsouth is pricey. They quoted me $600 for just labor for my timing belt. I got it done parts and all at the mitsu dealer in Anniston for like $525.
The ACT sounds good, but any clutch can probably be good if you break it in well, and its installed properly. I would love to have parts and install under $1k. I have heard good things about spec clutches. They are local in Bham right?

Spec is located in Bessemer, they make good stuff. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise but Every Clutch manufacturer uses Exedy organic material. Even the stock/oem Evo clutch is an Exedy clutch. That's why my stock clutch held out til 42,000 very hard miles......so far so good with the Spec. Several guys I know run them in their Evos with great results, which can also be said about ACT, CM's, etc....$1000.00 for a good clutch and flywheel with install is a good price. Maybe someone can hook you up with the install which will help on costs a little bit. I try and do all my own work, but not having access to a lift will cause you major headaches when it comes to installing a clutch. You can take the steering rack loose which will help.
Im not taking the steering rack loose. I havent ever done a clutch period. While I would like to learn, there is no way im tackling it by myself.
My current clutch isnt quite done yet (stock 85k), so I'll keep an eye out, and possibly buy the parts if I come across a good deal, and then look into finding a place to do the work. Then at least its not such a big price tag all at once.

yeah i have a shop!! Madison Transmission here in Madison... and yeah you could stay around and watch i dont really care... like Q said, the ACT is a great clutch and that is what i run in my car, when i redo my clutch tho i am going to go with the CCI stage 4 (6puck)
I had spec on my S13 and it was great, and Cecar had it on his evo and it drove great and held up well. I might actually try it when i need clutch, they can re-surface the flywheels too. and they will back up their product. C
No; They are a manufacturer only. I do know Danny over there at Spec he is in the R&D department, he also runs the race car shop they sponsor. He does these at his shop, that's who did my clutch install. When you get ready if you want let me know and I can contact him. Or if you know a transmission shop like above they would also be a great choice. Either way we all are here to help out in anyway we can. Just let me know..
Danny? The big guy who used to work at Radioactive with the Integra, now has a Civic I think?
I have a SPEC Stage 2+, or at least I think its a 2+ on my Eclipse. So far so good, it doesn't like reverse very much and its a bit of a handful in stop and go in first, but I guess that's to be expected. A few DSM guys have had a few horror stories with them, but since they are local I figured I'd give them a shot. The ACTs I used were a bit hit or miss.
Its about time for a clutch for my Evo and Serra quoted me $1000 labor if I provided the clutch and flywheel.
And I used to work with the service writer and two of the techs. I just figured Speedsouth would be just as high or higher, but I haven't asked them yet.For the guys and gals in the Huntsville/Madison area...what is Static X like? Is it a decent shop? There are no full service shops that specialize in imports in Birmingham any more. Speedsouth is really it, but they are a bit more domestic oriented I think.

Damn. But, if that's true, from what I knew of him it wouldn't surprise me. He said he had a RHD JDM Supra too. Him and his friend Marco used to be customers of mine back during my Murphy days. I sold his ex wife an Eclipse and Marco's girlfriend a Lancer.
EDIT: Yeah, its true, my fiance works at Jim Burke where he used to and she just confirmed it.
