Clean your Evos up really nice. It may turn into another photo op!
Thats me. My house is on Belleair Beach. No, it's not all baller. Its a funky old house from the 50's. Frank Loyd Wright style. Plenty of parking and my backyard is the beach. I have a Weber charcoal grill (only way to go) so bring food.

Also, I had mentioned to Howard that maybe we can turn it into a sort of tuning party. I was thinking of having Clipse3GT come down and tune my car. I asked if he could do several cars and he said he could. What do you all think? May not work out for the last week of October but what is the general interest level? We could all share in the cost of the flight and possibly get a group deal.

What would be the adjusted date for the BBQ and what would be the cost we will be trying to split? Not everyone uses social media like FB or Evo-M... so I would like to be able to tell them more through SMS.

Btw, thanks for choosing to host the BBQ!

Yeah, the tune party sounds like a good idea. We just need to get the numbers down and all the people that would like their cars tuned. Also we will need more specifics on the tuner as far as tuning goes. For example, does he tune open ECU or with Cobb AP becuase not everyone has Cobb, and actually a wideband. I guess we would just need to see what he is comfortable tuning with. We also need to get an approximate date so when can start planning and see how much interest we can stir up. Once we can get this down, we should be ready to go. You have my number. Thanks again Jordan.

He uses open source. We would be splitting the cost of the flight and if we wanted a dyne maybe get a block of time. Just need to get maybe 3 or 4 cars and that should be plenty. The date is open. He works 3 days a week. I know he is active on evox as clipse3gt. He does a lot of tuning. Road and E tunes. Dyno would come after the road tune for max power then touch it up on the road for drivability.

He does need a wideband. If you don't have one, you should. Or have a bung welded pre cat and he can bring one to use.

Let's see if we can get some interest. I know I am in so we need 3 more. Should be easy.

Let's keep the date for the BBQ and see if we can get 3 people interested in the tune. Then we can coordinate with Kris on dates.

I wouldnt trust any tuner without a real business, insurance etc. What happens when he wrecks your car while performing a commercial service? I bet your insurance wouldnt pay for it. Any competent tuner does not rely on his customers to provide the wideband and datalogging equipment. Any real tuner has advertised their service at some point on this forum and in order to do that you have to be a real company complete with business license in order to become approved to sell on evom which is why people can trust these pre-screened companies.

I flatly disagree with these statements. I know many tuners that are independent contractors and can be hired to perform work. This is how the majority of tuning is done in the world of Grand Am Racing. I know this to be true because this is the industry I work in and know most of them.

So lets say you have a stock evo and no wideband. How would a tuner go about tuning the car? And please don't say put a wideband in the tail pipe. Sure if you want to do some WOT pulls on a dyno and put the wideband there is will approximate the AFR. But it will not be as accurate as a pre cat wideband. This is why any competent tuner would prefer to have it in the proper location.

I have full data logging in my car. I would not expect your average evo owner to even come close to what I have installed.

He is an active member here and is approved on the other site. But that is not how I would base my decision on using him to tune.

And lastly, there are many companies that are "approved" to vend here that have done their fair share of breaking stuff. What is the vetting process to become approved? I bet $$ has something to do with it. And that is ok. Do you know how easy it is to become a business? Do you know how easy it is to incorporate? But to say that since they are an approved vendor and that should be all the protection I need is foolish logic.

@ gkania

You can still attend the BBQ without having your car tuned. I appreciate your input, and even agree with some points. (Especially about the insurance thing.) However, I disagree with trolling jordantii's post simply because that is not the route you would take.

The term "real tuner" that you used in your statement is relative, regardless if they are a real company or not. There is a "real tuner" in Orlando, which I am not allowed to mention here because he has been banned. Every last one of the cars he has tuned have scored more wins than losses at the track. However, when he got to my Evo, he did a terrible job and NEVER finished tuning my vehicle... making my vehicle the laughing stock of all Evos. I have been shy about taking my car to ANYONE since then.

@jordantii

There is a question that keeps popping up... how much would each tune cost BEFORE the hopeful "group rate?" There is interest in this, but no one is definite without knowing the charge.

I can't wait to see what you have in your Evo. I love looking at EVERYONE's Evos. I have not seen two alike... unless its at a dealership!

Also, (before my tune was messed up in the USA), I had a great tuner in Germany. He was expensive the FIRST time (500 Euros), but every time after that was free! He had my car burning up the tracks at German Race Wars! He tuned my STOCK Evo without a wideband.

Gentlemen, please don't let personal feelings get this conversation out of hand. This thread was closed by a moderator due to out-of-control trolling. I really like the idea that Tampa guys can finally have a thread that doesn't end up like the others... dead with no interest!

(Oh, and if you respond to this, please be gentle. I am only trying to keep things civil BEFORE they get out of hand.) LoL

I don't see any problems. Lots of guys I know tune their own Evo, but are still interested in your tuner. I'll pass it along.

So, BBQ still on for the end of October...?

Hey Jordan, i have been trying to reach you but it seems we both have been playing phone tag. I am interested in getting my car tuned, so you can count me in. Reason I asked about the wideband is that I currently do not have one. It has been on my to-do list for the last several months....lol, but I just have not gotten around to it. I guess I better start looking. Anyways, I think it is a great idea to split the two events that way we can discuss further in detail on getting this tuning session underway. So, so far we have one aside from yourself interested. Alex, we need to set a date and make it official so people have a concrete date to set aside for this event. Make your little fancy announcements so people can see it. It would be nice to get a good group and finally meet Jordan and his Evo as well. Ill try to call you again tomorrow Jordan.

Can't help you on the home...

...as far as buying a TME or FQ, it is possible. I don't know the procedure, but I have an EDM Evo VII that I paid a company to import and an old buddy of mine in Jacksonville has a JDM Evo VII GSR that he paid the same company to import.

This company doesn't exist anymore, but I point it out to show that it's possible.

If you're military, talk to your customs agent. They know all the tricks.
