How to get a inspection sticker in VA?

Hey guys,
I got my evo this summer, and I am pretty sure it won't pass the inspection due to the loud noise...so now I am running without the inspection sticker, which is really unsafe. Anyone know how to get one? Thanks!!

Not really Unsafe.... but it might cost you a bit if you get pulled over, Get stock exhaust system, and swap back after inspection...

Either get a stock exhaust, or a quieter exhaust with a CAT on it. That would probably be the biggest thing. What other mods are done to the car? Do you know if you state plugs anything into the diagnostics port?

As long as you have the cat and the exhaust doesn't sound like it has a hole in it, you should be fine, but it needs that cat. I pass with no issues with a 3 in. the with hfc.

Why are u running around without a SA sticker? Its not unsafe jus dangerous for ur wallet. VA hooks up ur car to a diagnostic comp thru ur obdII port an scans for check engine lights either on or in the "readiness" state (recently turned off). That only takes a few mins. Then it is a visual, an ur out. Why have u not gone for it? Not trying to be a d!ck, but that's being stupid. Worse case is u fail an then at least u get a pass for 30 days to fix w/e is needed. Ur not gona fail bc ur car is loud. If u haven't gotten it ur either leaving something out (no cat/ses ligh) or ur being niave/dumb. VA is not that strict, my buddy jus passed his 02 bugeye w/ straight pipes.

Is this ur first car/tuner? Where in VA r u located. I'm in DC area. I'm typing from my fone (insomnia ftw) so if u have questions or want advice, PM me. I'm knowledgable when it comes to emissions/SA.

Bottom line if u don't have a ses light, u "can" be legal, easily. If u do its a dif issue. Either way go get it done so u don't get a huge ticket

I am not sure man...so u mean I just go and have the inspection? Some of my friends said they really doubt if I am going to pass it, and they are actually fans of modded cars. They simply suggest that going there and have the inspection will be my last choice, and I don't pass I will be screwed. I am in C'ville, and this car is modded by its previous owner in Penn, you know, a much more free place. The turbo is upgraded, together with oil injectors and downpipe. I do have a N1 exhaust and it is really loud.

whats oil injectors?
the mods dont seem tooo bad. a tuner can sometimes tune it to pass inspection. but of course u do need a cat to pass visual inspection and no cel. U should definitely go get an inspection sticker, even if you dont pass u at least know what needs work and can at least fix and retry. also, u never know, u might actually fail by a little bit. If u get pulled over, you are SCREWED big time... money wise.

i dont see how going to get an inspection would be ur last choice??? wouldn't selling the car be the last choice?

You can buy a silencer for about 30 dollars or even less on ebay, it will serve the same purpose. Or you can get a exhaust control valve for about 130. Do you have a cat? If you have a cat you should have no problem passing with a silencer in. If you have no cat you have much more to worry about than it being loud. Don't be so worried about failing the inspection, its not like you can only do it once. If you fail, fix what is wrong and take it back. If you have a cat then just take it to the inspection and see what they say, you may just pass. Worst case you fail and have to go get a silencer. No big deal. You won't get a ticket. However, if you are without a cat and take it there there may be some wrist slapping involved.

Since you mentioned a sticker I assume you're talking about passing the safety inspection correct? If that's the case then you won't fail safety for an excessively loud exhaust, before the Evo I had a 240sx with a basically gutted exhaust and I always passed safety.

If I remember correctly Charlottesville doesn't have emission testing, unless that changed recently. If it has you can always get a P.O. box in a county that doesn't have emission testing and just register the car using the address of P.O. box and voila, no need for emission tests.
