Question Underglow laws in NC

Don't worry -- I'm not planning to put Underglows on my Evo. But I see cars driving around with them on fairly often here in North Carolina and wondered:

Are they legal?
Can a car legally drive on the road with them on?
If not, is it a ticket, or something worse like impoundment?
Are there any colors that are forbidden?

Just curious. I've read that some states outlaw them outright, other states simply restrict the colors (no red or blue, for instance). Does anyone know firsthand what North Carolina's laws regarding them are?

I have a brief period where I had them on, then I got smart but prior to buying them I call the local police and the told me that they are legal with the exception of blue and that is true for most states.

they way they work in NC is they are legal in every color except for blue and red. I think it just might be a citation if the cop doesn't like you. Not to sure about that but it seems about right. HAHA don't worry I actually bought some red ones for my 50 yr old mother for her mustang! not that she is out that late enough to use them though, lol.....

its not that bad, i see cars in my area all the time with them

last night i saw an eclipse with underglows, they changed colors, even blue and red. this eclipse was actually pretty nice, the entire interior was glowing too, but he had turbo gauges as well plus exterior was completely done up too.

yea cops around here don't have to much a problem with them, unless you are being a punk to begin with then they just use that as an excuse which i don't blame them in that case...hahah i need to remind my bro he still owes me for the noise citiation he got!! haha that was a $60 ticket lol so it should only be as bad as that..they wouldn't make it a serious crime for lights unless it effects their work and people think you are pulling them over same goes i think for the strobe lights

I've talked to the five-o's about neon colors where I work they said you can have
them but in certain colors: This are the colors you can't have Red.Blue,White,Turquoise.
Other colors are fine but if you run thoses colors listed just look out for the law. One of
the officers said that you can run a color that you can have and a alread upset cop will pull
you and talk smack about the lights. But some don't care about the lights I ask them about this because I have three in side and going to put some under the car. So if you want them get'em I am.

i have gone to court many times over my undercarriage lights... they were purple...after being tossed out of court the last time the judge told the DA if she sees another case of neon undercarriage come in front of her that isn't blue or red she'd have their ***... but in legal terminology so in NC you can have any color other than blue or red... i have purple on my evo now, but will be swapping them out for aqua when i get back from afghanistan, going to push the threshold a little farther
