Dyno Second Opinion

Ya know how bumblebees aren't supposed to be able to fly, but they can? Well, my WHP numbers from my last dynojet session didn't seem to correspond to me being able to get into the 11's. So tonight the guys at Tuning Tech gave my car another go on their dyno. The Evo did better: 8 more whp and 15 more torque than my last run.

What is this car missing that the guys pushing close to 400whp on the stock turbo have? It can't really run any leaner, it has a FMIC, and the TME Turbo. Only variable left is the timing and I can't imagine picking up another 20hp from timing. Seems like the MAF may be a restriction after all...

Almost exactly 12% from your DD race gas numbers. I'm starting to see a pattern here.

a more generous dynamometer

ported intake/exhaust manifolds, ported head, bored throttle body, longer duration or higher lift cams, and yes maybe the MAF or intake

but with that turbo these might only be good for another ~15hp maximum. definitely at the point of diminishing returns for a stock-ish turbo

No doubt we are way past the point of diminishing returns...

BUT it does beg the question as to a what point exactly the MAF becomes a restriction and how much. Seems like all of the 390+hp stock turbo cars have an EMS which removes the MAF restriction. I for one am not interested in wringing every last hp out of the car at the expense of stockish driveability. I will never stray away from the XEDE...I just wonder at what point a blowthrough MAF like what Malibu Jack has done becomes beneficial.

Ported Intake / Exhaust manifolds? - Wouldn't hurt

Ported Head? - Hmmmmm, maybe, but only if the factory head proves to be a limiting factor of VE - which remains to be seen AFAIK.

Larger TB? - A non issue

MAF? - Unlikely because we've seen a GT35 equipped car make right about the same hp as a similarly prepped car with no MAF.

Cams - Definitely a probability that more *peak* hp will be made with different timing and possibly more to be gained with a bit longer duration.

Tuning - I might suggest seeing what happens by richening the A/F to 11.5-12.0 and bringing up the spark advance until it doesn't like it.

Yep, I second that Ted, especially the cams and AFR. Nonetheless, very nice numbers Smoggy. Do you have uncorrected numbers?
