THANK YOU SHIV for an amazing tune!!
Id just like to thank Shiv for a great tune on my stage 1++ car. He mad 336.7 on race gas!! stock turbo and stock intercooler!! I cant wait to take the car to a different dyno and see what numbers i can put down. The car runs so well right now im speachless. I cant wait to get my turbo upgrade and see what he can do with that. The only issue i have with his tune is that i spin all 4 tires far too much now and my launches are slower now than they used to be.. i guess i have to run on my ra1's now so i dont sit there burning rubber.
THANK YOU SHIV!!
they did most of it a while ago.. but i got my friend to install the hotside for me. And btw it made a huge difference.. i went from 315 whp to 336.7 on his dyno dynamics dyno just with that addition.

The poster led us to believe that just having a housing gave 21whp more. If that were the case, then that would be the best upgrade that any 03-04 EVO owner could get. 21whp for $300? In all truth, it's because of the larger housing that the turbo hold higher boost thus giving more whp at certain rpms. Stock for stock, the housing isn't giving extra boost (as seen by the crank hp numbers of the two cars) but probably helping maintain a certain boost pressure.

Well I can't explain myself that well but I know for fact by seeing many dyno sheets with 10.5 hotside make about 20whp difference. I have one on my car I can tell you the difference. If you want a true explanation call either Vishnu or Dyno4mance. I also heard porting 10.5 hotside helps to smooth out the flow.
so what's your point. he add the hotside and was able to gain 21whp on race gas. now if you where to take the hotside off, and just try to add the 2psi extra. do you think it's gonna net the same power. I don't. plus like he said. there's a nice torque gain with the hotside also. Some peoples cars react well to the hotside. my car is able to make and hold as much boost as most evo's with the hotside. so, I really don't have a need for one. some do and some don't. Don't hate. congradulate....

The point is there seems to be a misunderstanding of the "science" of turbos and how they make power amoungst the evo community with regards to the 03-04's and the 05's. Thinking that a slight increase in diameter of a turbine side housing makes 20whp is ludicrous. You only make more power by increasing air volume. Both turbos are almost identical with the exception of that hotside. If we were to look at compressor maps, we'd see identical numbers as well.
I'm just tired of people thinking that the 10.5 hotside housing is some magical mod to the EVO without fully understanding the science of forced induction..

well, seeing that you understand turbo's, are you saying the same power can be made with out the hotside. I understand what you mean, by saying that the hotside it self isn't the power maker, but it does allow more boost to be ran correct, I'm just making sure I understand the concept. so, if it allows more boost. then there's more power to be made correct. just making sure I understand correctly. and remember this is the internet. so, expression are hard to present. I was just joking around with the don't hate. congradulate thing...

Trying to get that horsepower by increasing the boost won't necessarily solve the problem with the 03-04s because it would just taper back even faster. In that regard, the 10.5 hotside's compressor map is probably slightly different than the other compressor map. However, the small difference in air volume isn't that significant when comparing their actual numbers (i.e. 10.5 hotside could pump out 40lbs/min as opposed to 39lbs/min with the smaller housing). In other words, getting a 10.5 hotside is a minuit power mod. There are other things that would make more power that cost the same or a little more (i.e. upgraded intercooler pipes). And it certainly isn't good enough to warrant getting it over a replacement turbo that can push 50+lbs/min of air at the same rotational speed.

regardless of the science behind it, my car is running better than ever. I feel the torque comes on a bit quicker and it seems to have a bit more power on turn exits.
This post was not meant to be a promotion for the 10.5 hotside.. i just wanted to thank shiv for the great tune. I guess its just coincidence that the car makes much more power after the addition of the larger hotside.

And I mean no harm in posting. Just wanted to get some of you guys a clear understanding behind turbos.

Enjoy the newfound power!

Just make the point more clearly, why do stock MR's make power than 03 Evo? Everything is same except for the housing. A stock MR dynos in about 250 and 03 Evo dynos in about 220. DYNO SHEETS DON'T LIE, do your research.
