I need a straight answer please

Ok, I'm going down to Vishnu to get tuned soon and I need to get some things cleared up. My mods are catless tbe, o2 housing, licp (may also have a race fmic before the tune), drop in filter and possibly 280 cams depending on when they're released. I'm hoping I hit at least 330whp on the DD w/ cams on 91oct., but am really wishing for 340-350 w/ all the supporting mods.

My question is when will the bigger fuel pump be required? From what I've been reading all the basic bolt on IX's tuned by Shiv are on the stock fuel pump, so clearly its sufficent at the 300-315whp level on the DD. But why does everyone else I talk to say I need the walbro even with just the tune and bolt ons? Should I get it to be safe, or is it not even necessary?

Finally, assuming the stock pump is sufficient with the basic set up, will I need to get the bigger fuel pump if I do decide to add cams? This will put me (hopefully) in the 330-350whp range on the DD as opposed to 300-315whp. Will this extra power require me to get the bigger pump?

The VIII and IX fuel pumps are a little different, with the IX flowing a little more. That why your getting contradicting stories.

On a VIII most people get a fuel pump with TBE and Flash, and deffinetly with cams.

With the IX and its pump being a littler stronger, a fuel pump isnt neccisarly needed with just a flash and TBE, but it wouldnt hurt anything and would add a little more saftey.
Not a lot of people have installed cams on a IX, but if you are going to, you should deffinently get a fuel pump IMHO.

If Your lookin to get 330-350 whp on Shiv's dyno in the summer you are going to be disappointed. That is like me lasting 3 minutes with Shania Twain or another hottie. Not going to happen and u will be like every hottie I have been with; Very Very Disappointed. My 30 R made 330 whp on 91oct in cooler conditions and I believe a 30 R has higher flow potential vs. IX turbo.

As for the pump I say get it just in case you make 320+ whp and find out the flow capacity has been reached. Think of it as a condom.Spend the money on Protection now and save later. Child support can be expensive. Evo support ain't no walk in the park either.

You suck Newbie! LOL! Try and warn him that 330 whp is going to be a tough task in the heat and especially on Shiv's Moon Dyno.

IE there have been several IX's in the 300-315whp range on the DD with very minimal mods. One hit 307whp with just a tune and a CATTED tbe. I think my numbers are very realistic if I dynoed on a fairly cool day. Assuming IX cams make as much as the VIII ones, gaining 25-30whp from them is totally feasible. My buddy made a 30whp/tq gain with the HKS 272's on his VIII, and I'll be running 280's. Keep in mind I'll be running catless and will have the WORKS drop in, LICP, o2 housing, and most likely a huge FMIC to help me hit the big numbers. I think 330whp on the DD should be an easy task based on other results, but who knows because this stuff is rarely a constant science. If I do manage to hit 350whp on the infamous moon dyno running only 91oct. I would jump off a bridge.

I hope u do hit a great number. However, you have alot of variables working against u and a turbo will only flow to its unknown potential no matter how many parts u throw at it. Nobody knows the true potential of the IX turbo; so maybe u can be the Yardstick that others measure. Good Luck and I hope Shiv can make your Evo wet dreams come true.

I realize that its your life, but If it was me and I was set on jumping....I would pick the Hayward side of the San Mateo Bridge.....Just my $.02. Also, FWIW, I´d be willing to bet an In-´N´- Out burger, that you won´t see more than 325 AWHP on 91 in the month of July in that heat. I do however wish you the best of luck.

Also, play it safe and get the pump.

Yeah Id probably see 325-330 on a hot day but 340-350whp SHOULD be do-able based on other results. I'm definitely going to wait until it cools down a bit before I decide to make the trip. Im hoping I can make an appointment early in the morning so I beat the heat and dyno at around 70-75 degrees.

My main reason for waiting though is to see how the IX cams turn out. I want to see a bunch of people "guinea pig" them before I do. I also want to see what different companies release them and when. At the moment it looks like the GSC cams are the only ones right around the corner.

Do they have hot days in July in Northern Cali? I remember freezing my butt off while driving a convertible with the top down one 4th of July years ago from San Jose to SF... People were wearing f*cking parkas to watch the fireworks at some bay somewhere along the way.... If I had to get a dyno tune for high numbers in July, I'd get it done in SF

It was in the 100-105F range here last week. This week it is much more moderate.
