Exclamation intake suggestion

I know the intake situation has been beaten to death here, but I have an idea.

I understand why shiv doesn't tune a map for aftermarket intakes (too many different kinds, and each one flows differently). So I was wondering if you guys, Vishnu, were going to develope you own intake system where you would make maps for? If that isn't cost effective, then how about sponsoring an existing system (RMR, HKS, etc....)?

Let me know if this is a realistic idea or not

You can have Shiv custom tune any part on your car so if you really want a intake add it and have him tune it. Vishnu does not see a point of upgrading the intake. Look at stage II it even still uses the stock box.

Stick with stock it works and it's cheap (free with the car)

well from what I've read.... a properly tuned intake will produce more power. So I thought if the vishnu guys were to pick one and tune for that one only then they would get more power and then all of us exede groupies would be happier (more power). But I could be way off

He posted a few times that he did not see the stock box as a restriction.

It works well, but you can't hear the turbo and it doesn't have that intimidating "pssssh" sound. I have the RMR intake and I do notice the lack of low end pull that the stock one gives. But if I put back the stock one I will miss the noises coming out of the engine bay.

I'm sure Vishnu can design an intake, tune it and provide proper maps for it.... but why ? As mentioned many times before, the stock airbox w/ clean filter provides almost zero restriction.
The only use for those intakes seems to be for looks and sound only, which to me seems a big compromise, considering all the MAF misreads and other potential problems.

it may not be a restriction (hurting performance), but there is no way it can flow as much as the HKS RS or similar systems, is there?

well my newbie tuner logic tells me that if your car is properly tuned for the high flow intake then you are gonna make some nice power (like the SAFC's do)

Flow is always limited to the smallest restriction in the piping. Even with a lager intake cone the maf is still the smaller. The Stock filter is larger then the MAF opening.

There are no baffles in the box and it has a snorkel for fresh out side air.

Eric's right. We routinely do testing with the filter removed completely to see when the factory filter becomes a restriction. With the stock turbo and a *clean* air filter, we haven't been able to find any significant restriction.

With Stage 2 making 450-500bhp, the stock filter did become a restriction however. Not a big restriction. But a measurable one nontheless. But until we find a true cold air ducted intake box which filters well (those metal mesh filters work terribly), we'll stick with the stock box.

my 2c,

Shiv

Question What about?

Well what about a induction pipe and a drop in filter from monster sports? But keeping the stock air box.

How about something like this (ARC induction box)?
