Xflash driving impressions

My friend Andre and I took our Evo's out today and did some back-to-back testing. He has the Xflash and I have the Xede w/ Sub-zero baseline map. I installed a 2-position switch today so I could flip between stock and the sub-zero map. We both wanted to see if we could feel a difference between stock, Xflash, and Xede.

My car running stock felt good, just that acceleration seems to really taper off in the upper-end of the rev band.

Andre's car w/ the Xflash felt significantly faster than my car. I was really surprised how noticeable it was. He has done absolutely nothing to the car other than this and the difference is night and day compared to stock. I know the butt dyno can be very unreliable, but this is just too obvious to miss. Very, very impressive.

My car running the Xede sub-zero baseline map actually felt a tick slower than Andre's car. It is definitely better than stock, but I'm convinced Andre's car is making more power.

I will be bringing my car to Shiv ASAP for some dyno tuning of my map and to compare my #'s against Andre's (look here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=58412 ). Will post my own numbers when I get them.

Is it a custom-tuned Xflash that your friend got?

Yes

Yes, Shiv tuned the car on his moon dyno In fact, I believe Andre's maps helped Shiv create the baseline settings for the Xflash. Please note that the car is running 91 octane (thanks Kalifornia ) AND the crappy winter blend (thanks again ). I can't imagine what it could do w/ some good 93.

Actually, Andre is running the baseline map with no additional tuning. That's why he was in and out in just 4 dyno pulls The 2nd generation XFlash map which I downloaded into Andre's car was actually developed on someone else's EVO. Needless to say, I'm really happy with that map. Getting axis to boost tables really helped

Cheers

Thanks for chiming in, Shiv. Whatever you did, it is mighty impressive. (Your drag racing experience is really paying off )

Also, not sure if you want to go into it here, but I remember you saying there is an advantage in running the Xede on top of an Xflashed ecu. Could you explain that? Just curious.

the differences I feel between the Xedeflash and just XEDE are mostly in midrange power and more importantly SMOOTHNESS! With the XEDEflash... 4th gear from 45mph just stab the throttle, you get full boost by 3200 rpm and it just gets faster and thicker up to 120mph. Buttery is a good word for it - way different from the on/off feel of a stock car.

Yep... with the XEDEFlash, we can tune our XEDE'd cars for more boost in the 4000-4500rpm without bumping up against the factory fuel cut. Higher rev and speed limits as well for those who really like to wring it out

Yeah. I think I am taking the X-FLash plunge this week.

Shiv, you have Stage 1 93 octane maps already right? ANd also, how is the X-Flash going to interface with X-Flash tuner. And while Im at it, how does the X-flash tuner work?

Thanks.

Does Xflash offer anything different from the Works flash or the Dynoflash? Is anything different integrated and used?

So the only benefits if you have an Xede already is slightly higher boost between 4-5k with out fuel cut and higher Rpm and speed limit removal? What if you already have another type of re-flash is there any benefits to getting an Xede or you flash instead over the others?

This is what I theorized the XFlash challenge might be. If it is, then we will all have our questions answered. And I bet Shiv is feeling pretty comfortable with the results the Xflash has produced, or else he wouldn't be selling them and publicizing results.
