Question Octane booster.......

Shiv or anybody else........It seems the good stuff (higher octane gas) is getting harder to find, especially here in the Peoples Republic of California. I was wondering if it would be possible to use octane booster to run any of the higher octane maps. Has anyone tried this?

that would probably work if you got the right mixture, but now you're talking about a ton more cash just to up your octane... but if you have the money, its probably very doable

I hear that most of the boosters use various chemicals that can foul the sensors. Has anyone else heard this? Thanks...

If you want an effective, relatively economical, safe, octane booster, there is only one way to go... use toluene or xylene (they are pretty interchangeable as octane boosters).

Search these forums or the web in general for: toluene AND octane.

use toluene, it works. You buy it at the paint store. Cost about $30 for 5gal. The article I read said to put in 2-3 gal tolune per tankful. the link is on the site.

according the article this is the same stuff they used in F1 years ago to get insane power out of small turbo engines. It is a hydrocarbon and that is all that is in any octane booster. The main point of using it is to get your "octane points" up. Especially in a turbo EVO.

I read it and it sounds great. I've heard of it before but I've never seen it written out so well.

Shiv - Do you know anyone that uses this? I think it would be a good way to get around Cali's horrible gas if there are no side effects.

It just sounds too good to be true.... There has to be some real negative side to it all.

I belive the toluene would work great as a octane booster.....my only hesitation is that it might be kind of hard on any rubber part/hose in the fuel system (make it swell then get hard and crack). Not sure if the newer cars use a different kind of rubber...............
