That is not exactly the case in the UK. The FQ series were commissioned by the Colt Car Company the importers for Mitsubishi Cars. They are somewhat analogous to MMSA here in the US.

They are many Ralliarts (UK, Germany, Spain, Japan) around the world it used to be a largely autonomous company. There were two ralliarts in the UK one was at Dudley. They were responsible for the Extreme, XT and Sprint series of Evo road and some Group N cars.

They were not the Ralliart of WRC fame. They specialized in the import of Evolutions through the UK SVA process. Much like grey imports in the US back in the early eighties.

A few years ago CCC clamped down on Ralliart UKs import activities and wanted to grab the Ralliart name for its own promotions. So now they have Ralliart authorized dealers for FQs and we have a warmed over lancer as a lancer Ralliart.

So am I to understand that the FQ's are not imported my MMC and are therefore not covered under the MMC warranty? If so, are the warranty issues handled by the individual dealerships that sell the FQ's?

The warranty is cover by the distributor of all official Mitsu cars in the UK the Colt Car Company. Mitsubishi Motors Japan is not involved with the FQs. There is a large unofficial import community in the UK. In fact all Evo’s in the UK except the 260 model are still effectively imports. Each one goes through a Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test. After the emissions testing the FQ performance items are added.

The UK has refreshingly simple import laws.

The best rule is the supercar rule. If your vehicle's performance is in the top 5% of all cars sold in the UK, the emissions standards are lowered. The UK Impreza STi P1 was brought in under this rule. I think the super car rule is going away soon due to EU agreements.

Of course here, any supercars end up getting the gas guzzler tax I guess that's not such a bad thing per se, but it's probably just a way to get more money out people who make a good living.

The intent was to encourage the smaller cottage industry sportscar builders like Noble, TVR Marcos, Radical, Etc.

I got down to LA on a full tank of gas and that's a 350 mile trip. Works out to about 25 mpg.

The realtionship to model this sort of thing after is BMW and Dinan. Certain dealerships are certified to upgrade cars using Dinan components. Dinan's own warranty covers anything that is voided on the BMW warranty for the duration of the factory warranty. So for example, if the tranny explodes and it's determined that the Dinan blower was at fault, the Dinan portion of the warranty would cover it. Dinan also isn't cheap but they use only top-notched components, imo you get what you pay for. I abused my Dinan-tuned M3 and never had ay problems.

That's not a model for Evo tuner to follow. Just the fact that on stock factory cars the transfer cases are failing left and right. BMWs are much diffrent and the blower Dinan uses are not making that much power over stock like vishnu is for the EVO. They should just have approve on stage packages. IE doing cat back exhaust and Xede or flash. You have to remeber that cars have to meet emmisons or they are not road legal.

IMHO
