Passing California Emissions???

sup so cal peepz... i haven't seen this question dealt with before, so i'm gonna give it a spin here...

i've already switched out my exhaust, my catback, and my intake... i still have the stock headers and 1 cat. converter...

in 2006 we're all gonna have to pass emissions, and i'm planning on having my car at least that long... am i going to have problems doing so right now? i don't feel like i will... but... what about if i switch out the headers? get rid of the other cat? does anyone know? thanks.

I have about the same setup that you do. I have an RRM Test Pipe. So my plan is to, before going for the emissions test, to clean out my system with hign octane fuel, injector cleaner, put back the cat and go for a pretest (this one doesn't get sent to DMV) and see if I'm within passing.
I think it should pass this way.

I also want the header so I think I will swap them out but keep the stock manifold to switch back after the emissions test. Kind of a pain to keep switching out but hey you will do it til 2006 and then only every 2 years. It doesnt seem that bad to me.

you also have to consider getting pulled over by the law and getting your car inspected for smog, if you fail the hearing and sight test, (i almost did, but it helps to have friends at the smog station) the officer can tell you to get smogged early.
the rrm test pipe is good for the track, thats about it.
i just finished my turbo setup on my lancer, i tried to remain the stock smog system as much as i could. im curious to see if mine passes as well.

its custom, and i still have both cats

but as far as i know of, the smog test works like this, the guy sticks a sensor in you exaust pipe, he put the pedal at 1500 rpm, then when the computer says go, he stomps the pedal to 3k rpm, so im guessing just as long as nothing is affected with in that area, i guess you should be fine.

*edit if you want to see my turbo setup, i'll be at this saturdays lancer meet. 2pm @ rrm

A cam is going to hold your valves open longer and in turn use more fuel, in turn, upping emissions.

the turbo with the two cats might pass the emissions tester thing up the exhaust pipe, but it won't pass the smog test cause it doesn't have a carb sticker on it, also i heard in like 2004 they are switching to a smog test that will put the engine under load by putting it on kindof a dyno thing and that will make it alot harder to pass the emissions test

Ah yes, the treadmill style smog test. I heard about that to. Nasty bugger. Quite literally, like a treadmill they can vary the intensity and what not and make your engine work. Clever.

Hay the tredmill is already in being used you are down south I take it they have been using the tredmill for a cupel years now in sacramento and finly the bay area has to pass the same test as us their smog would blow up to us no fair and they had less acurate testing I dont agree with look test It should be a sniff only test and to all the after market supliers look at the carb guidlines they are not that hard to go buy and to get a # plus what the heck you now can say your product is federal and california legal in all 50 states sounds like a good selling point to me or is the after markt going to be like the on for the mirage. mirage market what what you talking about willis

dialect

I take it that was to much for you to take in . You are not the first person to not to be able to handel it . I just get better depending on how you take it or how much you read in to it . are you a happy person or a bitter person. All counties should have the same standereds and test .

My only question (still unanswered as far as I know... do I need to start its own thread?!) is does the RRM header still pass Ca emissions?

edit: just remembered, I was going to forget the threads and ask Rob when I get enough money to seriously think about the header! *smacks forehead*
