Hmm I bought my car in NY ( I live in NJ ) and I paid sales tax to NJ for the car since I registered it here obviously.

So what would final pricing be on a IX MR or a SSL IX?

The dealer here, would have the buyer sign a form stating that he is out of state or county, and have the buyer pays the appropriate tax when he register the vehicle at his residing county.

bump for my unanswered questions...

you should not pay tax of any kind in california. just buy the car, then go get a temp tag/interstate travel permit. that will get you home. then you pay tax in the state you title/register the car in.
I purchased my car in oregon. paid for it, without paying any kind of tax at all. went to the dmv there, paid $30 for a temp trip permit to get home, then registered/titled the car in idaho. that is what you should do when purchasing a car from them.

if they are collecting tax in california, then they are titling the car there for you. not legal if you don't live there. you cannot title a car in a state you don't reside in unless you have a physical address there, otherwise everyone would be buying cars in states like oregon that have no sales tax....

The dealership can collect the tax for out of state *IF* they are registering the car for you in that other state. For example, I live in NY but bought a car in New Jersey. The NJ dealership collected NY taxes and registered the car in NY (i.e, they paid the NY tax when they registered the car).

However, this only works if the dealership is willing to travel to the other states DMV and knows the appropriate tax rate (for example, in NY the tax is based on what county you live in). Also, they probably won't be able to do a safety/emissions inspection for you so you'll have to do that back in your own state if needed.

I think that you will find that to be a rarity, especially out here on the west coast where it is so far between towns/states. I would doubt very seriously that ANY dealership in socal is set up to register and pay the taxes for another state, but yes, you are correct if the dealership wants to title the car in your home state, then they can collect the taxes and title fees.

I totally agree with you 100%...I am just trying to clarify their tax processing. Like I have told them on the phone and on here. How are they gonna collect the tax in California when I don't have a physical California address.

It seems to me, they have some other hidden fees they are trying to collect and refuse to answer clearly my only question of out of state tax.

other than the cost of the car listed on the sticker, the only other fees that you should see will be "doc fees" which are a bunch of ****. it is a way for them to recoup the cost of the guy to sit in the office, fill out the paperwork with you and push an extended warranty on you.
title fees and tax should not be collected until you title/register the car, which if you are buying out of state, you will pay upon registering in your home state.

the best way I have found to buy a car is to use peoplefirst(now capital one) and use the blank check option. you get preapproved for a car loan and they send you a blank check. you then go buy the car, fill out the check, get it approved on the phone(takes about 10 minutes) and drive off with the car and title. you then have 30 days to re-title the car in your home state and send it to them. hassle free, no pressure from the credit department at the dealership and No hidden fees for them to tack on..... rates are usually close to what deaerships offer. we have bought 2 cars that way and it was wonderful.

Hello EVO Enthusiasts,
What is all involved here? If I'm out of state than there wouldn't be any taxes so what else would we have to pay?

Hi to all

Okey here's the deal, first off all there is no hidden fee's or anything on this deal we will disclose all the fees that you are going to pay , and sandm is probably right that you can get a Temp Tag for your car to DMV and pay them $30, but you have to go to dmv yourself and im not sure on that..

I already have 5 Evolutionm members bought a car from me and none of them have complain it was a quick deal....

Willie Dynamite
Even you are out of state you still have to pay tax based on whatever tax rate you have in your area and the $595 Dest charge and the $45 doc fee..

Thank You

Right! But you will only pay tax and registration when you come back to your residing state. Unless, of course you are collecting tax on behalf of that state. So all I should be paying is $32xxx for the MR and whatever doc fee, etc, right? Then once I get to my state, I pay tax and registration.

Not flaming you, but after all your short attempts to explain the tax thing, it is still not clear because you really haven't answer the question in details. I would like to know as I am interested in maybe purchasing one from you and driving it back to AZ.
