Reno Area anybody?
You know, OEM Porsche parts really aren't any more expensive than any other car; It's when you start buying aftermarket that the price jumps up (labor cost is a different story; spark plug change $690 (drop engine). For example; when I worked for Porsche Cars North America here in Reno I had access to all the parts pricing. At the time my wife was driving a Saturn and whenever it would have a problem I would compare the equivalent Porsche part price to the Saturn part price. I was suprised that quite a few times odd little stuff, like window switches and knobs, etc, cost more from Saturn than they did from Porsche. The engine stuff cost a little more on the Porsche but not by a huge margin either, I can get a Porsche clutch for cheaper than a Evo clutch. But when you're talking aftermarket parts...look out, you get raped. I guess they figure if you can afford the car you can afford to pay more for the tuner parts; it's not like they're engineered any better for a Porsche than say an Evo. Another example; full titanium JIC Magic exhaust for the Evo, I paid $1800; same full titanium JIC Magic exhaust (different design of course, more bends) for the Porsche? $7,000. One area that is more expensive is fluids. Porsche just can't use normal coolant or hydraulic fluid, etc it has to be Porsche coolant that will supposedly last till the next Ice age, and it uses "Pentosin" hydraulic fluids which
is a euro thing, and it uses a 0W-40/50 engine oil, which is another Euro thing. So you buy a bottle of coolant and a small can of Pentosin CHF fluid and you're looking at $75....haha (luckily you may only use the stuff every 5 or 6 years).
But I can bet that the GT-R with all of it's trickery isn't going to be cheap to work on either, especially with the tolerances that it's hand built engine has. Supposedly Nissan is going to have to open up special service centers just for the GT-R. And rumor has it (some Nissan people that I've spoken with) that Nissan is trying to keep the aftermarket stuff as close to NISMO as possible. They say the ECU is going to be a ***** to crack, and they'll know if the car has been tampered with. So you'd have to replace the ECU to get anything out of it, but with all of it's HICAS and AWD program systems being built into the ECU, good luck with that. Plus the fact that it now has a aluminum V-6 which isn't the best for tuning we all know, unless you do some major engine mods; they should of stuck with the inline configuration. Will be interesting to see how it all turns out once they're out and in public hands.

. I knew the fluids and stuff were expensive, but thats because europe has to be different and make things difficult

no...i would need to return everything back to stock....just to have them look at it first., plus all the bad stuff i hear about allison....id rather just have allan do the work., that way im sure its done right....
its his basic package with some of the options like endlinks. I also needed new topmounts because mine were toast, so I got cusco camber plates. So being that all my struts were blown too he sold me a set of JDM 9 struts he had in his parts pile..got lucky only 300-500 miles on them. Allan has some of the basic suspension parts in stock.

I stopped down at Allison on saturday and saw the X's they had in stock. I guess they have 7 there. To be honest I didn't like the look of it when I saw it in person, or the $4,000 markup over msrp! So for a base gsr after taxes will probably be close to or over 40K. I almost got into the whole "South Coast sells them for close to invoice" thing but I just kept it to myself. Another funny thing was that the first one was sold to a girl living temporarily in Reno. I remember reading a thread somewhere about how the X may be viewed as somewhat of a chick's car, maybe they are right!

Just wondering if anyone here is a member of seccs.org (local Subaru form)? I was thinking about joining to further my detailing a little bit, but for the most part I've noticed theres a bit of hostility between Evo's and STi's here.
I pop in seccs every now and then...some nice guys some think they know everything about everything..Some have evos. They are nut swing the sti. however they are track ***** and autox *****...just watch out and say nothining about having fun on the streets...all of them will look down on you for that.
