Do you guys really think a road tune from Al would be better than a custom dyno tune from Speed Element or GST?

I find it very hard to believe based on all the negative stuff I've heard and read about these past few years regarding his tuning and customer service. I'd be careful imo

Its really hard to tell.I heard a lot of positive and negative feedback from a lot of members in here regarding AL.But again he is been tuning evo's for years and years now.I guess there is only one way to find out .If the price is reasonable i might go for it.

Any tune that happens in Reno will be better, and safer than a tune in Cali, assuming both tuners have the same ability. The atmosphere is just different here in Reno, lower humidity, higher elevation, same gas. Theoretically, you should be able to run higher boost on the same oct. gas, with similar ign. timing.

Sorry, this isn't an accurate statement considering we don't have any competent tuners in our region. If anything, your sea level tune would run a little rich up here at our elevation since there's less oxygen, so to make your car run absolutely perfect you'd need to log your car and adjust your map parameters accordingly. Without these adjustments your car would be fine, trust me. I've had friends that have followed this exact same method.

A 91 octane tune from Al is ANYTHING but better or safe, please believe me on this one. But if you don't, start searching the forums for the results of his west coast tuning trips, and you can see for yourself. If you disagree with me, get road tuned from Al, I'll get dyno tuned in the bay, we'll log both cars and run them, and see the outcome

PEACE

Question to my fellow evo peeps: Ive heard that installing an MBC on our 9's has raised some complications. Can anyone relate to this, or is this a rumor? I just recieved my Unos forge MBC and am wondering if i should install or not? thanks.

Never heard of issues on 9s with mbc. Just make sure you get tuned for the amount of boost you'll be running. You can probably still run around 20psi w/o a tune and still net some nice gains, but a tune will get you so much more. I am not running an mbc, but using the stock bcs as shown here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=227006

Just do it yourself! You're paying someone to install an MBC? :

To ensure that the work gets done properly by the shop, at least go over the mbc installation shown here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=173408

Fernley is open this Sunday 4/1 at 12pm for drags. It'll be good for you to get some baseline #s to ensure that your mods are actually making you faster.

Thanks gobagheera, i printed that install out a couple of days ago, im going to bring that with me for them to look at.
Turbolag, glad to hear that they are a reputable shop......my install should go well then.
Another question though......i believe i am running a bit rich, when the car is first started, it smokes quite bad, as in mainly dark black, some white. How is this corrected, another tune? thanks.

How bad is it smoking? Does it go away after it warms up? Mine smokes a bit too when it's cold, but not to the point where I'm concerned.
