I was always paranoid about this with the Volks on my WW Evo, luckily nothing ever happened.

Well the address explains it.

Sounds like an inside job or at least a planned job.

Like Sikwit' was saying, it does sound like an inside job ... and ... if somebody "towed" it inside ... I'm beginning to wonder if those guys are the first ones I'd question?

Getting over a razor-wire fence (an average quality one) is probably not too big of a deal. We'd hop fences like that all the time in my youth (the ones that are normal chain link with a looped razorwire on top) and that was without wearing much protection. Throw on like a bike suit and some sturdy thick gloves... And you can do it pretty easily.

I doubt the guys at his work who took the effort to tow it are the guys who did it. That'd be super lame and stupid for coworkers to do. If they get caught somehow, they'd more than likely lose their jobs. (And if they didn't, I'd be having quite the word with HR and management).

The only thing to protect your wheels is get locking or unstandard lugs, but those can easily be bypassed by a hammer and a socket that is close to fitting (had to do it before). You could get a parking boot and put it on every single wheel, or get some otherwise locking cover for the lug nuts.

Really, the only sure solution (other than garaging it and leaving it in a safe spot) is to have cheap/crappy wheels, but no one wants to do that. My Evo got broken into in the Trolley Square parking lot at 2:30 in the afternoon on like a Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Guy broke through the rear passenger window and was in the car fiddling with the stereo (no skill here...) I unlocked the car and he heard it (I was coming down the stairs) and I saw him crawling back out the window, all scraped up from the glass. He booked it and dropped one of his tools. Cops didn't care much, neither did Trolley Square, and they had no security cameras. I lucked out that he didn't take anything, especially my backpack that had my laptop in it. And insurance covered every single thing he damaged from it.

I wish you the best of luck man. Hopefully the bastards didn't mess around with anything that is irreplaceable/repairable. And that insurance covers it well.

Yah that's been the first thing we've been checking. The problem is there was a "hidden" key outside the gate that has been there for years, so many many ex-employees knew where it was. We also found two big holes cut into the fence that could have easily fit people through.

A locking lug nut would at least help I would imagine.

To someone who wants to steal stuff and came prepared (as most part strippers probably are) locking lugs will not be any help. It is a piece of cake to take, say a 20mm socket, pound it with a mallet on to 19mm lock-lug. And take it off.

Now if ALL your lugs are lockers instead of just one per wheel, that might work a bit better, since it'll take quite a bit of time to get them all off.

Still, it's going to deter them if they are in a hurry or a place where they can't be all that loud. Or if they're not very professional.

mountainturbo That sucks sorry to hear man I luckily had a not so good or smart thief try to break into my BMW and ended up Braking my Passenger door handle and Key hole. who ever the person was they wanted the Car and not stuff in it or on it and they didn't want to or break the glass. I had to end up paying for the Repairs because I didn't have full coverage on the car and If it was taken I would have been out a car and Lots of money. Ever since then I have had Full coverage insurance on all my cars. (Yes Even my Beater Tercel I do)

Well at least it wasn't worse and nothing irreplaceable was taken and no one got hurt

I really hope Karma can do its Job hear to the ones who did this

yep! I've lost key locks before from 17yrs old to last year I've had to do the socket trick.

Speaking of Lugs Jake..if they'll fit you can have my blue works lugs..if anyone else wants them its $
