What's the cutoff date for the electronic smog check vs the old style sniffer test? I know the newer cars just need to pass a visual inspection and to plug into the OBD2 port.

I don't see what is so "ballsy"

This is the California Smog Law(s) thread. Who better to ask than a California certified smog technician?

Any vehicles 1999 and older are still using the older BAR97. Everything 2000 and newer is an OBDII check on the new Data Acquisition Device (though it sounds like an easier test, it is actually a lot more difficult to pass).

So long as your car has the OEM cats, you should be fine.

Not if you are in CA, unless you get lucky on the visual.

I was talking about the sniffer, but yeah any reasonable tech will fail you on visual.

Any vehicle that is model year 2000 an newer will need to have all monitors set, with the exception of the evap system, to pass smog.

yes, i know. there is a thread here, somewhere, where someone successfully passed CA smog with all necessary monitors "ready" via EcuFlash (some of us don't have an EGR, CAT, etc). i have been looking for two days and can't find it.
i had it saved to my favorites but that laptop died. bleh.

i have a place where i pass visually, but i have to pass the plug-in test.
