stock is the only thing "lega" not sure about Utah but idaho has a loophole you can get around on aftermarket exhausts

Did he get you on a db meter? Otherwise I don't think he can even come close to proving it was "too loud." The only law I know of is the noise limit law. I think it's 98db

remove wastegate dump thats up front and have it run into your dp.. that wastegate dump is loud as f***. Other than that your catted last i remember and i think its the wrong cat the dealer put on. And well yeah good luck.

EDIT:

I dont know how you got pulled over.. TJs 20g is so much louder and he never seems to have issues lol must have been an off day for the cop.

to be fair, Rules are rules. Yes, moderators have the discretion to give out points or warnings. I personally respect you guys for the fact that the utah thread doesn't need strict moderating.

as for the suggestion, it helps when we do get feed back from our members, and we try to act in accordance to what our members want.

I don't know the actual law Nate. I may be incorrect too. I've heard another thing that goes along with the Harely's... Can't be louder than factory. I have no idea how they test that though. But that is why Harley's aren't illegal sounding, if they got a ticket for it they could just go prove that their exhaust is the one from the factory.

I never worried about it much, I did more research on exhausts than any other mod I did or wanted to do to the car because I wanted the quietest best performing one.

And part of it is because of the Evo. Even with how quiet mine was, I still had a cop he could "hear me from a mile away" when he gave me a speeding ticket. Maybe if I was in the S2k... But not the Evo. Just being spazzy.

If you really have a problem with it you should buy a stationwagon J/P.

If you want a good exhaust but quiet get the TI-C they come with a silencer.

As far as cops go with the hole harley thing No they dont come loud stock, there really quiet stock. If its loud its aftermarket pipes, and theres some unsaid deal with cops and bikes. Maybe its the fact that most of them like bikes so they look the other way. Or they think most bikers are in a gang and dont want to get shot. All I know when I had mine the pipes were way far from being legal, and I drove around without a plate for a month and even had a cop drive right behind me and did nothing.

got both of my exhaust tickets thrown out because both cops were being douchebags and tried to get me on a law that only salt lake county mandates. if any cop give you guys **** about having a modified exhaust out of the area that is considering salt lake city. i.e. from 200S all the way down to 1900S on state st, they are going to be thrown out if they dont have some kind of sound measuring device. dont let them **** with you. ask them for their code reference and ask to see the proof of you being too loud or speeding. they have to relinquish that info if you ask. most dont ask so they do what they want on that pretence. like jeff was saying a while ago, when they come up to your door, have something discretely recording also. it covers your butt if something goes down but its not legal unless you actually bring it to their attention. most wont act up after that.

the two most over looked types of vehicles when it comes to either being modded or being loud are the massive amounts of diesels that plague the valley and then the bikes. if they say that the bikes arent loud they are full of ****, not to mention the bikes arent supposed to be louder than the police bikes. if they are, its violating some kind of noise code. but like its been said, they turn the cheek and its disappointing.

oh and bobby if i had to be gone for a year i would most likely take it out on my body and come back about 30lbs bigger from going to the gym so much to try and take my mind off of it. this 19 days is killing me because i dont have anything fast to drive and im not working on anything. the fastest car i have been in since i was down here was a S40 T5 volvo. nice car but needs mods. i also got to sit in the back of a C6 Z06 on the dyno in Ft Worth while it did a 1/4 mile simulation and ran a damn 10.99 @ 130mph and made 460whp...with nothing more than a catback....while untuned. sighs. dallas dsm guys are pretty cool.
