I'm sure they had a helmet on. There is a fair bit of information on the accident in some of the racing forums. Apparently the Porsche was doing about 165 down the straight and another car came out from the hot pits onto the track. Porsche swerved to miss it and lost control. Tragic accident. Apparently passenger was also killed and was just someone there at the track that jumped in for a ride along.

 

ouch ... that's a terrible tragic accident ... i'd like some links into the forums if you'd be able to pass them on perhaps ... looking at the track layout ... it may be that there is practically no run out (if it even mattered at that point) if somebody literally runs you off out of the pits.

Oh, and I saw a red Lotus Elise on I-215 today. It was nice looking, but if I were to drive a car like that, I think I'd get a louder color. Red on those is kind of subdued.

One of the two Elises that went with us to Spring Mountain, it was probably him... though I don't know how many Elises are in the valley

 

I have seen 2, silver and red. I pulled up next to the guy (silver) in a parking lot. HolySh*t those look like they are a bitc# to get in and out of. I would not even attempt to get in one.
