)The date you set if you plead "not guilty" is called a "trial date."
The date the judge sets if you lose a trial is called "sentencing."
Typically if you plead "no contest (nolo contendre)" or "guilty" they hold "sentencing" on the same day / same instant.

Get this one. I just moved back to NC from Michigan on September 14 and on the 21st I'm on my way to get an oil change and I won't lie. I was speeding, but didn't realize it at the time. I saw the cop as I came up over the hill and looked down and saw that I was doing 45, which I thought it was! So I keep rollin and as soon as I get around the curve he comes haulin *** around the bend and damn near hits me. You know this dude tries to tell me that he clocked me going 61 in a 35! WTF! I argued with him for a second, but he said I clocked you going 61, sit tight, I'll be right back! Damn sure did write me up for 61 in a 35. Now everybody knows that a Lancer (it's an automatic anyway) does not have that much pick up going up a hill! Anyway, a few people brought up a good point that I should have been arrested fro doing 61 in a 35, but hmmm. Why wasn't I? Cause I was going 45!!!! I'll be 24 on Halloween and I've been driving since I was 16 and this was my first ticket of any sort! A couple other people asked me if I looked at him and I said I looked over at him. I had my 2 front windows down! They said well he probably saw the tint and the Michigan plates and figured he was gonna get you for something! I guess he did! I was sitting in the car and he asked me if I've had any previous tickets and I told him, "Nope first one ever!" Dude then looks at me and says well here is your court date and with this being your first ticket, the judge will probably give you a nice long lecture! Have a good day and slow it down! I could not believe this dude! White cop stopping Black male driving nice car in hick town, WOW!!!! I've never heard of such a thing! My wife said that I could probably get a prayer for judgement on it anyway, so until then I'm stuck! 61 in a 35 that punk A$$ ****!!
Hi Bens,
"I saw the cop as I came up over the hill and looked down and saw that I was doing 45, which I thought it was!"
Two words repeated a thousand times: fight it! fight it! ... fight it! This is a case (if what you're saying is entirely true) of blantant misuse of radar. Radars have a bugger of a time tracking 'anything' over a hill, AND the cop has to 'visually' make a judgement.
Your case would be to have the cop say in court that he couldn't see you until you barely passed him, and until that point the gun was DEF. not right, and marginally (out of 'reasonable proof') right when you passed him.
Its officers like these that make a bad name for those who really do do a good job.

for sure dude, but the fact remains that I was speeding by 10 over. I looked on my way back home and the speed limit sign was right near the corner. I missed it because I was making sure that no one was turning out of the street on the left! So I was doing 45 in a 35, but damn sure wasn't doing 61! That is also the problem, I can't afford to fight it. I'm hoping that the judge will see my driving record and give me a nice slap that I don't really deserve and be done with it!
Sometimes fighting means you have to dig up the info. and learn the talk, and walk the walk in court.
I don't want to sound too harsh here, but if you don't, then this cop is going to try to pull this crap on someone else. You didn't deserve it, and you can suck up a lot of time in court, just by pleading "not-guilty" you can always change your plea to like "no-contest" and not have to pay a penny more. or ... during the time you are 'waiting' for your court date, you can 'negociate' with the city's lawyer.
Another 0.02.

P.S. This is not 'legal' advice, just an opinion from a concerned EVOM member trying to help another Mitsu enthusiast.

Gotta ask to see that gun man. PISSES THEM OFF, so save it till u KNOW you're getting the ticket. I know one thing though, there are SUV cops out here in Hawaii, and I've accidently sped by a couple...
...they don't even try...
maybe they just know?

dang, I was on my way home in NC going back to FT. Bragg, This state trooper was in front of me and he had a camaro with the rear tinted, he said he got me going 77 in a 55. This **** was driving in front of me. Which means this guy was doing 77 himself. I should have been arrested. Now I have to go this Friday to the court house to talk with the DA. Think this is b.s. how the hell can he clock me while he was driving not to mention his back mirror was tinted. WTF? When I passed him up I was going 60?
I saw a trooper do that like 2 years ago! We were all going west on 40 it was around that lake you can see that looks like a summer camp. I can't remember if that is before or after the Fayetteville exit, but I remember that I was in front going about 55-60 and the trooper was behind me in the right lane and the car came haulin *** up behind him and then fell in line. After a few minutes of the trooper sweating my ***** he pulled into the left lane and started to pull away and the guy behind him followed suit. All of a sudden the cop cuts off to the shoulders and I slam on my brakes and the other car goes flying by the trooper and he flips his lights on and chases the guy down and pulls him over! I just stopped on the side of the road until they were stopped and when I rolld by the trooper looked over at me and tipped his hat! WTF! Just glad it wasn't me! Even though I got Jewed over last week!

Take care.
