bought all the stuff for the oil feed and return today. I also bought a triple gauge pillar and four gauges(yes I can count.) I had to buy the EGT gauge seperate, the boost, oil temp and oil pres. gauges were options on the kit I bought. I will probably mount one of the gauges on the dash, or maybe the glove box. It depends on the time left in the project at that point.

Well oil temp is not that important ( I have it too) I have the lower console tripple pod (cd changer space) oil temp & pressure and a volt meter . Please put the wideband on your sight (maybe a steering column pod like mine) you don't want to miss that one, EGT on the pillar along with the oil pressure and temp.
This is my setup (the wideband is ordered will seat on the empty hole in the pillar)

yeah, I am putting the oil pressure, oil temp, and egt on the pillar. I want the oil temp so I know when the car is completely warmed up, it's gets pretty cold in the winter here sometimes. the boost will most likely go to the glovebox. I am not so much concerned with the AFR, since I will do extensive tuning and logging after I finish the project. Once I get the car all set up I will determine whether or not to spend more money. The other gauges will tell me enough for now, especially if I can keep my CEL from coming on.

What steering column mount do you have, I was looking at one on Ebay but I don't know how the fitment would be. Do you have pics of yours, or can you snap one or two showing the fitment and how it looks from the drivers seat?

update:

I had to email glowshift gauges and remind them to ship my second box

I also bought an ebay pipe bender that was a 1" impact wrench when it arrived. Something about UPS voodoo they asked for pictures, which I sent them last night, and I am waiting for their response.

I was so excited that my pipe bender had arrived I went ahead and took 6' of 1.25" pipe home to try it out all well.

I have everything I need except my two mufflers, my pipe bender, and three things for the intake/exhaust that I can get at work (3" steel pipe, 3" alum. pipe, and 3/8" steel rod)

Sometime this week I will start a new thread listing all parts with pictures.

Freshly painted intercooler, 3" exhaust flanges and 3" high flow obdii cat

A-pillar with one gauge slid in for effect. I haven't checked fitment yet but it looks ok.

Exhaust pipe flare to assist in my installation. I figure I will flare the ends to slid over each other so I can prefit everything and tack it in place. That way it will all line up and I don't have to spend too much time under the car with the welder.

Oil pan bulkhead tap, a -10AN fitting, -10AN stainless braided hose. I am doing both the feed line and return line with this.

Manifold. The pipe in the background is my wastegate exhaust pipe.

Cat in the box, blue 10mm silicone hose for various vacuum lines.

Light blue WRX injector. I have four but they all look the same

Various fittings to go from size to size for all my gauges and lines. I had the most trouble here due to my limited knowledge of adapters. All well, I have it figured out now in any case.

It is quite unnerving, but I can't turn back now. I am very nervous, and I should be because I am still learning things that had I not figured them out before starting I would have blown my car up The research I have done planning this greatly outweighs the time I have spent at work paying for it, or at least the time I spent working at work to pay for it.

Once all the parts are here I am going to categorize them and take new pics. I have talked to one friend of mine about helping me with the install, it will make taking DIY pics much easier.

How detailed does everyone think a DIY like this should be? Should I take pics of simple things (like photographing the manifold so I can circle the bolts holding it on) or just the detailed stuff (like here is the oil pressure sending unit you need to remove to put your 4-way)? I think everyone trying to do this will know where the bolts on the manifold are, so I was thinking about just explaining the simple things. I also don't think I am going to show much of the exhaust fabrication, that's kind of self explanatory anyway.

Anyone with input?

Because there are noobs like me always lurking, I would say make this DIY as specific and thorough as you could possibly stand to make it. Anything at all that you will be appreciated, but thats my vote.

Is there there any reference material we should be reading to help bring us up to a healthy understanding before reading your DIY? I don't want to bog you down with a bunch of questions that I should know the answer to prior to seeking your help.

I just searched and read any and all information pertaining to installing a turbo kit. each time I had a question I tried to search for that specific answer and ended up finding a plethora of diy's and schematics for me to read through. I didn't bookmark anything though.

alot of it is common sense, once you figure out how a blow off valve works the vacuum hose routing makes sense, same thing with the wastegate.

the turbo is either in or out, and either exhaust or intake. you can't mount it wrong on the manifold, and as long as you use common sense when you look at it you will see how the air flows through it.

I read up on MAF sensors to see where I could put it in the intake system. lot's of discussion on this subject to read through. you can go pre turbo or post turbo, and it makes a difference on whether or not you can vent your blow off valve to atmostphere or not.

exhaust is self explanatory, as is intake pipe routing. the intercooler just needs to be mounted somewhere you can get tubing to it and air flows through it. pretty simple. I think mounting the intercooler and then bending the pipe to it is probably the better option. same thing with the exhaust, I plan on starting with the back muffler and working towards the turbo. That should make sure the exhaust hangers I make will support the exhaust and not the turbocharger. I would hate to crack the manifold with the weight of the exhaust, or torque the whole system trying to get the parts to line up.

fuel management was a question, but it's up to the user to decide where to go. Through my research and asking questions I have decided to go with WRX injectors with the RRM NA piggyback, I will determine whether or not I need to modify timing later on. The rest of the fuel system is going to stay the same.

oil feed and drain was a pain in the ***, you should figure out how you want to do it before you start buying stuff. The turbo you choose and how you want to feed the line, as well as how you want to tap the oil pan, will determine the lines and fittings.

touch on these items and you should have a basic understanding of a turbo kit.
