the gates kit doesn't say it comes with the balance shaft belts and tensioner. That contitech kit doesn't appear to come with the hydraulic auto-tensioner for the valve timing belt...you should also replace your water pump if it hasn't been done yet.

Thank you for the reply,

I do have a lil to noticeable wobble on the water pump pulley, car has 142,000km

So i guess im gonna have to buy those seperate parts if get either of the kit

Gates does say it comes with water pump, premium?

Thabks again.

So much good information here can't thank you guys enough.
I have a 2002 lancer, Im getting ready to buy the timing belt kit and was wondering if you guys knew whether the balance belt for a 2003 or newer lancer would fit on a 2002. I cant find any information about this online and everywhere I look they sell balance belt for 2003 and up.

should be 04 up, 2002 and 2003 ES, LS and OZ Rally use the 2.0L 4G94 engine, which doesn't have a balance shaft belt. For your car, you need a water pump, timing belt, tensioner and pulley (one piece), tensioner spring, and that's it. I will compile a parts list for you. I can also provide you with the portion of the service manual that outlines the job. PM me if you need that.

I used to have a 2003 lancer, and the timing job is MUCH easier for you...However, getting the accessory belts, the pulleys(you have 2 belts, 2.4L Ralliarts have only a single serpentine belt), and the timing cover is a little more time consuming than it is for the 4G69.

here's the parts you need.

That would help me immensely, thanks so much. I read so much about changing the timing belt with a balance belt too that I was getting frustrated trying to find a balance belt for my car.

From what Ive read here GATES would be a good manufacturer to buy on ebay. for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/121153640049...84.m1436.l2649

Im looking to replace the accessory belts too. I found a rar file of the FSM for a 2002-2003 lancer on another thread so I will download when i get home.

Also other than the timing belt, tensioner and spring, and water pump, is there an idler pulley to replace too? I would like to replace anything i can while down there.

And as far as accessory belts and pulleys go, is it the same as the 2003 lancer?

theres no idler for the timing belt on the 2.0L because the oil pump is turned internally, and it's SOHC. just the tensioner

From 2.0l to 2.0l I would think yes, to be sure tho search both cars oem part numbers and make sure they match then anything aftermarket will work as well

Crank Pulley?

Glad this thread is still active!

04 OZ 4G94, do I HAVE to pull the crank pulley? Can I get the belt around it and the water pump/cam pulley and release the tensioner? I know I'll have to keep the belt tight and everything aligned, but do I really have to pull the crank pulley?

I just didn't want the hassle. I can snag an impact wrench.

Hi,

Sorry for the long posting. But I have a lot of qs:
I have the 04 Sportback (Not the RA). 111k with the original timing belt (California) - I understood that it is good up to 100k-104k so I think that it is time to change it.

1. I am looking for a timing belt that will last me another 100k. I wanted a Gates bue racing. I couldn't find one for 4G69. Do you know which is the best Timing belt that I can use for this engine?

2. I found the post from samdog on Jan 8, 2011 on this thread and on mitsubishiparts.net it comes up to $488. Is anything wrong with using this kit from ebay ($244):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NPW-JAPAN-Water-Pump-Timing-Belt-Overhaul-Kit-Mitsubishi-2-4L-4G69-Engines-/271497772263?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2004%7CMake%3AMitsubishi%7CSubmodel%3ASportback&hash=item3f36873ce7&vxp=mtr
This seems that it is a complete kit.

3. is there a difference between MitsubOshi timing belt and the OEM Mitsubishi timing belt? I love that my timing belt was guaranteed up to 100k.

4. I know that RA has 2 more HP than my LS. Do you know if there is a structural difference btw these 2 cars? Can I purchase parts that are for RA without any concerns? Anybody knows where are those additional !! 2Hp !! coming from?

Thank you very much in advance for your time.

By the way... since there was a link that didn't work any more here is the timing belt replacement for a 4g69 - it is a Outlander but it is the same engine that I have in my Sportback.
