I would think that it would fit but if mitsu changed just one thing on the diameter it could cause a problem. I've seem the difference between the two , the newer one is clearly stronger.
Also is there anybody that has looked into this? Would be pretty cool if we could get a stronger belt for the Ralliart.

I changed mine with the engine in the car...wasn't that bad...there's lots of room, once the serpentine belt and timing cover is off

its easily done with the motor in, remove the passenger mount and if you can remove the front and rear will make it easier. there isnt alot of sticking your ahdns into tight spaces when doing this job, the water pump is tight if your doing that tho.

Yeah I plan on swapping it out, may as well. I bought the car at 140k and am up to almost 150k.

I will take your word for it, I was looking at the clearance from the top of the car trying to get an idea of the space down there, looked a bit tight to me.

it's not that bad...not worth the extra time and effort pulling the motor out...remember, to pull the motor you have to disconnect suspension, remove axles, all connections from the control harness, all motor mounts etc...

Looking to get timing belt done on sportback about to hit 90k miles since I don't know if it's ever been done. Will purchase MD-998738 Set Screw, Belt Tensioner. On https://millerspecialtools.service-s...l.aspx?id=1274 it mentions "Used with MD-998767 wrench". Do I need to purchase that too? Is this site a better option http://www.jayracing.com/timing-belt-tools-c-17_229/?

you can just take the old one off, and compress the auto tensioner with a large c-clamp if you're reusing it, but it's a good idea to replace it anyway, and the new one should come compressed and pinned, just be careful not to let it jump when you pull the pin out, after setting the valve timing...I forget what the thread is, but you can just buy a long bolt from a fastener store for 25 cents. I didn't use that on mine, and the timing belt has lasted about 70,000km now.


also the special tool for setting the pulley position can be substituted with a pair of allen keys. there's no running torque specification in our service manual for the tensioner pulley, only a gap specification between the auto tensioner and the tensioner arm (3.8-4.5mm).

Thanks. So just the Gates belt kit # TCK332 (2 Belts, 2 Tensioners, 1 Idler) and ACDelco 252-891 Water Pump should be good.

Here is what it shows on Rock Auto.

"Does not include cam. tensioner hyd. assy.; Interference engine application"

The GoodYear kit - Inc. Hydraulic Tensioner for only $3 more.


Otherwise it can bought be separately for $50 - $90 depending on brand (Dorman, Gates, Aisin, ACDelco). Seems the GoodYear kit is a pretty good deal; is their quality as good as gates?

Also, should I get the camshaft and timing cover seal?

I don't know about quality...I used all genuine OEM parts...but it's goodyear, they're a reputable company like gates. unless the seal is ****ed, I wouldn't worry about it, it's just to keep dirt and water out.

Anyone know which kit i should get?
