hey everyone I'm new to this forum, been reading lots of threads over the past couple days due to a problem i'm having... I've just had my timing belts, tentioners and idler replaced at the dealer, i didn't have the time to do it myself and now kicking myself for not doing so. but anyway I got my car back and the engine doesn't sound quite right once i've reach about 3000rpm while driving or in neutral. It seems like the engine lots it's "roar" and sounds like a regular old 4 cylinder car just a little louder, there isn't a real noticeable amount of vibration like i've read that other people were having problems with. the mechanic is trying to tell me it sounds normal to him but i know for a fact it doen't i've had this car for 6yrs and it's far from normal. anyway i went and talked to the owner of the store yesterday and he said he'd have it all torn apart and do it over agin but my concern is if they did it wrong the first time or left someting out what makes me think they will get it right the second time..... Open to any suggestion just so I have something solid to go on before I drop it off again.
Thanks in advance for the help!!

Welcome to Evolutionm.net !!! To bad it's on bad terms that your arising but none the less. If the dealer is willing to redo the timing belt without charge then let them try to tackle it again then go from there but what crans said wont hurt .... I mean certified isn't qualified.....

if it was timing related you would notice it at idle as well i would think, the lack of power does it happen when the car is suppose to change to mivec 4000+ or is it jsut dull all around.. if its only above 4000 then maybe the mivec solenid isnt opening, if its all the time it could be anything from carbon on the thortle body to maf problems

it's normal while sitting idle, it's just really noticable once you hit 3000rpm and above. I'm sure they have it timed properly because the car shouldn't start if it wasn't but what would happen or notice if they had the balance shaft out of phase? and would they have even needed to touch the mivec solenoid to change the timing belt? if not i'm gonna assume that wouldn't be the problem only because it was running perfect before the timing belt change

thats good man i didnt think it be that simple, usually from what others have said if the balance shaft is off all u get is a heavy vibration, i never would have thought that it would effect the performance like that.

Do I need to replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt?

Room to work

Are you guys able to do this while leaving the motor in the car or did you pull it? It looks pretty tight for space to me, plus my hands aren't made for small spaces.
