Engine Knock

So unfortunately over this weekend I would have to say that the mentality that my RA is invincible is completely gone lol

On the way to MOD when driving a little spiritedly my engine started knocking and we just ripped apart the oilpan to do a general diagnosis and this is what we found

i dont know if you can see it but the oil is shiny at the bottom. yeah thats metal flakes from...

THESE 2!

From the looks of it I spun a rod bearing and well now my crank and rod is toast... anyone have any spare parts to give(hopefully? yes? lol) or sell just let me know

Luckily not too much damage was caused since we caught it early from what we think but I guess this is what you need to replace when it breaks

Crank
Rod/Main Bearings
Gaskets
and Rod and Rings

but thats just the general in hopes if nothing else broke. again if anyone has a crank/rod they would like to sell hit me up! =]

Definitely would love to thank the guys from Douglas Automotive down here for helping me get the car off the road when I broke down on the highway. Good set of guys hopefully who can build me a custom turbo when i finish repairing and have money?

Pull the crank and have it machined and save yourself some cash.

that was a crazy moment man... one minute all 10+ of us are cruising happily, the next minute i see you pull over fearing the worst and seeing all us pull over as well. I'm glad it is not as bad as it could have been. And I'm glad you found someone to help you get your car back home. Hope you get it all fixed soon.

from the looks of it i think i scored the crank enough where it should be toast? do you think machining it will be able to fix that? im trying to look into as many options as possible to save some cash

What kind of mods you had done on your car? Running any boost? Or bone stock?? Man that sucks, I hope mine doesn't do that as well!

I think I will see the same thing, once I get a chance to pull my engine apart. Keep us posted on your fix.

does anyone know if i can source a crankshaft from other engines? been searching yards and most dont have the 4g69 engine so just wanted to know if others will work

mods are as said in my sig. no boost

we believe my oil pump may have failed? not sure exactly what happened as havent looked into it. most of my concern has been getting the car running

That's a little odd that you can't find a motor. The 4g69 is in galants, lancers, eclipses, and outlanders. Did you try car-parts.com?

is the crankshaft 6 or 7 bolt?

i searched car-parts.com and nothing really comes up for eclipse/lancer/galant/outlander. im assuming i should be searching for the 2004-2006 years?

EDIT: fixed from camshaft to crankshaft

As for the years you are correct. You should have all kinds of hits...

one of my mechanics believe that all the bottom ends of the 2.4 engines should be the same? so all he needs to know is if its a 6 or 7 bolt to the flywheel

i apologize. i meant crankshaft. i was wondering why i got no results. however i got results but the years dont match =/

is it an accurate assumption though that the bottom ends are all the same in the 2.4 engines? its just the heads that are different in the blocks
