thanks...like i said it'll be a while...
im still nowhere near cracking it open...
it's still driving it just makes noises, and im 90% sure it's the input shaft bearing and/or the throwout bearing...and since it has ~140kmi on it might as well get it rebuilt if it's off(and probably apart already...)

TOB will rattle at idle and driving, regardless of load...

mine rattles at idle and load...but it comes and goes at times....(doesnt go away all the way, as much as it gets less noticeable)..
but i also have a exhaust rattle(flex pipe), so the car rattles all the time, but theres different rattles...

If it rattles when the car is just sitting there, and goes away when you press the clutch it's definately the TOB...if it grinds, whines or howls under load (happening to my car right now) it's not the TOB, and likely an input shaft bearing, or chipped gears or something...i'll be making a thread about it shortly...

HMM...
thanks...maybe it is only the tob...no howling...no whining...
and it does come and go w the clutch
but i'd hate to put a new tob on(w/ clutch...might as well), and then still have a noise..
but then again...it would suck too if i rebuilt the trans when i didint need to...

i had one of the guys i work with listen to the trans and he thought it may be the inputshaft bearing...he used to work at a trans shop...but even he couldnt tell exactly what it was and told me it could be either one...or both(tob or input shaft)..

decisions...decisions...

it could be both cause if the input shaft bearing makes noise under load, and the TOB makes noise all the time, you can't have the clutch disengaged, and have load on the input shaft at the same time...

I'm having transmission issues myself, i'll get a video of the noise it makes before i drop it, for future reference...

i was wondering if any1 knows the average price for the rebuild kit...i seem to remember having looked it up when it was 1st posted...and the price was ~$70 for the rebuild kit(BK497A), and ~$150-170(BK497AWS) with synchros...

but i looked earlier this week and i found pricing to be a bit higher...like 2-3x the price i remember...kit was ~$150, and ~$350-500 w/ synchros...im thinking for those prices i'd be better off spending a few extra hundred and just buying a rebuilt/reman trans...

if any1 knows where to get them kits cheaper please let me know...since im going to drop the trans and do my TOB, i figured i'd also rebuild the trans...wether it need it or not instead of having to drop the trans again later...i'd rather do the synchros too for peace of mind, but i guess at those prices i can't afford it...

Hey crans i had a questi8n wonerin if u ever posted a vid of the tranns noise. I too started hearing this weird noise that goes away with the clutch engaged. Im guessing throw out bearing. Its late i will try and post a video of my noise. Like some of u know my ablilites are limited to do doing **** myself. If it is the tob is it something i could do er is it rather easy. I do plan on doing my clutch as well as the tranny will be dropped. Also i was wondering if someone made a thresd on pulling the tranny. Thanks guys keep fillin this beeotch with awesome useful info

my noise was either the engine side output shaft bearing, or the right (passenger side) cv shaft bearing...i replaced both of those and the noise disappeared...i took a video on my phone, but upon removing the transmission, i realised the audio recording was disabled...so, it was one of the two, the thing with my noise was it only occurred during acceleration...

I guess this is a common problem on our cars as I have the same thing most likely. So is it the output shaft bearing then? I wanna fix it.. annoying as hell!

My transmission makes a grinding noise (sounds like a lubricated grinding noise if that makes sense) it speeds up when you either rev the engine in neutral or in gear when driving and goes away after pushing in the clutch pedal. I changed the tob when I changed my clutch, so that's ruled out.
