That's the same problem that I have. At least your gears don't grind

dude, you have a mess of bearing issues, i couldn't even tell if it was only the TOB cause it was so loud...

^THIS!

loool you're right though cos i don't think a TOB would sound that loud..but you know what the cool thing is that i just started doing? i can tweak the clutch pedal using my feet and the noise goes away COMPLETELY..like i can step on it a few times and get it to engage slowly while in NEUTRAL and the noise is totally gone...

you gotta see/hear/feel it to believe it

now i'm confused as to what the cause is..OH! and my 2nd doesn't grind so much anymore..it's a MIRACLE in-progress!!!

i'm so excited to do actual work on my RA

right now, i've been checking all the rubber components for cracks, corrosion, etc..sometime this weekend i'm gonna get my RA undercoated and i'm gonna treat some rust spots and touch up the paint..

i love how my RA has been holding up this whole time! she's a thing of beauty, i tell you..

but right now..she's a ROCK GRINDING BEAST

that sound usaully means one of the races on a bearing will have a nice chip out of it, its not to hard to replace them and it will cost you about 150-200 for all 6 bearings and all seals and snaprings shipped that you would need

If that's the case, which it probably is, I'm not too impressed with the transmissions in these cars.. My dad bought the car brand new and babied it and I bought it from him and I've been good to it as well. I had an ae86 that I used to drift and I drove the **** out of that car for years and I never had a problem with the transmission and the funny thing is, the t50 in the ae86 is known to be somewhat weak... lol

I don't think our transmissions are that bad. Otter and now Smike has over 200k on their transmission. That car has seen its fair share of abuse on autocross courses. You have to remember that forums are only a small percentage of actual owners and sadly a lot of people only show up to gripe about problems when they appear.

couldn't have said it better myself...i see it time and again, "our cars are known for this", or" this is a common problem with these cars" etc. i've seen those same words on honda forums, and mazda forums, etc through random google searches. It's a small percentage of owners, and these "common" problems are the reason the forums are here

I'll take my RA over a Civic any day. I love the fact theres only a few of us on the road. Like Crans said, lots of common issues come up with every make of car. I feel we have really solid rides that came at a time Mitsubishi wanted to make a name for themselves in North America. They engineered pure value and awesomeness into the 04-06 RA's.
