looking on mitsuparts for the rear main seal, it also has a retainer listed...
does any1 know if i need to buy a new one of them too or just the seal..?

it's hard to see in those low quality parts sketches....
i google it and most places i looked it shows a large round seal(rear main, im guessing), and some kind of half moon gasket looking thing(i'm assuming retainer gasket maybe..?)
so possibly i dont need a new retainer, just the new gasket for it..?
OR...do i have to remove the oil pan to get to the rear main seal..?(im guessing no...but figured i'd ask anyway)

i haven't had to touch the bottom end yet, it's possible there's a circlip retaining the seal sort of like the wheel bearings...i'm not sure man, but when in doubt, order the part...like when i rebuilt my tranny, i ordered all new c clips and circlips for the shafts and bearings, along with the seals...

wish i could be more helpful, but when you find out, you can let us know

thats what i assumed after my last post..lol
it hopefully should be a few weeks, so i'll put it up then...i may also do a new oil pan and gasket if it's not ridiculous expensive...mine's all rusted and im scared it may be close to rotting thru...ive seen it happen and i'd hate to fix it all and then blow the motor from lack of oil...

i can't get this job done soon enough...the rock crushing/knocking trans noises are driving me crazy...
i can't hear them inside w/ the radio up i get paranoid, even tho i know nobody else gives a crap, about how other people think when they see/hear my car going by...lol

hopefully i have enough $ after i get the trans done i can go to a exhaust shop and @ least get a new flex pipe welded on...it's driving me insane too...
i know it shouldnt be too expensive, but hopefully nothing breaks in the process or removing/installing the exhaust...
altho if i have the trans out, i may already have had the exhaust off and it should be easy to just drop off the flexpipe at the exhaust shop and have them put the new flex pipe on it while it's off...probably would be cheaper...*hmmm*

the asa program should be pretty good for showing you if there is a clip holding it inspot, if you have the manual then it may be more helpful in determining if it might just be a press fit inspot
