Exclamation An Exhaust DON'T

ok, on my way home today, i stopped by my friends muffler shop....i wanted a tip to put on the stock exhaust.....sounded like a good idea...well, then curiosity got the best of me, and i wanted to resonator taken off.....(i don't want to spend money on a full exhaust because i don't plan on keeping the car long).....so, they took the resonator off and straight piped.....i now have this tin-y sound coming from the exhaust, mainly in 1st and 2nd gear....now i'm not sure if there are air leaks or this is the result....i feel like i'm driving a honda now, and that's not cool.......so, just a warning...don't do it....luckily this didn't cost me more than a few bucks....

well, it's straight piped from the cat to the stock muffler...oh well....now i gotta decide if i want to put the money in and get an aftermarket exhaust, probably magnaflow, or just put the resonator back on...

mmm.. sometimes it goes away.

When I had my exhaust first done, it sounded like a tin can, but after you give it a bit of throttle it goes away and sounds nice.

Having said that, recently put a cold-air indiction system on the car and it did the same thing, once again little throttle and hey fixed!

mine is a little tinny when the motor is cold. When I drive it for a few miles the ricey sound goes away and it sounds GREAT. But right off it is a little tinny sounding.

Did you feel an increase in performance?

No, I didn't notice any performance difference....even after putting on a Magnaflow muffler, I noticed a little difference but not much...mainly for sound i guess....

You should have noticed a little bit of a difference. What was the size of the pipe?

i still have all the stock piping, cat, and resonator....but the magnaflow muffler i have is a single in single out, and it's the non polished oval one, and i had a chrome tip welded on......lol, that probably didn't help....i'm just waiting to get my CAI and then i know i will notice a difference...unfortunately that's on hold cuz i just got a huge tat today.....priorities.....

2.5" is too big for a NA car... It would serve no purpose other than making the exhuast louder. Exhaust will only net you 2-3 whp hardly enough to notice.

The stock exhaust is approx 2 and one eigth in diameter....mandrel bend. I would have originally thought that 2.25inch would be good for our car........... There are a bunch of RA owners that have put on a 2.5 inch press bent and mandrel....with success. Ultimate Racing in Toronto provides a 2.5 mandrel bent cat-back system that has been dynoed and is also an aftermarket item offered by Marhkam Mitsubishi. When we originally looked at the exhaust we thought that 2.5 would be too big but actually works ok...... If your going to make a few mods later on.....It will probably help in the future too.
