06 Ralliart... pretty sure i blew the engine

06 RA. Just did tranny, flywheel and act clutch and today in 5th at 3500rpm I hear a ****ty rattle and as I go to switch lanes bam it cuts out drops to 0 rpms and bellows of white smoke pour out....

Now u had my shop replace the tranny and all for me as well as timing and this is the first weekend I've driven it but my girl says it had a weird rattle at 3k since its been back why the hell she failed to mentionit is another story but I'm assuming the balance shaft or oil.pump shaft wasn't in and/or routed correctly or with correct tension.... Also the oil light flickered today however I assumed faulty oil pressure switch...

What do yall think? Oil pump failure = engine failure and can I get shop to cover or help cover cost?
I'm having it towed now to shop, ull let them tear it down and worst case I. Can rebuild... With that said who's got parts...........

Any and all info is appreciated... I'll update with compression numbers and status on Monday.. until than let's here some thoughts on a stronger faster rebuild route (keeping $ in mind I'm poor)

if you're poor, avoid the "stronger and faster"

From what I can understand is that you had the timing, clutch, and flywheel done at a shop a week later your car blows up on the freeway and your asking if the shop should cover it? Well if the timing belt failed cause of their work and it's not a run down shop they would help

Check the oil for metal, if you spun the balance shaft the oil will be full of shavings.

Well said! lol. Let me rephrase that, " I don't want this rebuild to break the already dilapidated bank called my wallet"

That's what I'm hoping, car ran great for the past 6 months since I bought it, and than all of a sudden they touch my car and than this.

In a perfect world I'm hoping the timing failed, jumped, snapped or anything of that nature as at least than I can expect some help from them. Downside is, if that is the case than I have to rely on them to fix it and I'm not too confident in them at this moment.

Cars getting towed to my house today, so depending on how my conversation goes with the shop Ill have some info on it today. I don't want to start pulling it apart just yet and than have the shop try to blame me for anything, than gain Id really like to take a peek so I know they cant bs me either..

Ill check the oil pan for shavings tonight regardless, and see what I can see without getting to intimate..

Lastly, am I getting in over my head here if I attempt this myself? Ive swapped out a 302 on my old 87 Mustang and done quite a few trannys, clutches, axles and engine work on various cars.. Scale of 1-10 Id give myself a 7 as far as mechanically ability. Im just thinking I can save a ton on labor and put that money back into the car.

You should be fine it's a machine it can be fixed and there's a lot of information here and help if you need it.. And what crans said just peak underneath if anything record what you do so you have proof that you didn't do anything wrong when inspecting

Quick Update- Last night I was finally able to get some visual diagnosing in, and ill make it easy. I threw a rod straight thru the block. Ill try and take some pics tonight of it as I didn't have my phone with me at the time. I did peek at the timing and the belt ls still intact as well as the balance shaft belt so definitely wasn't that. All I can come up with is that my oil pump failed, as previously stated I had an oil light flickering briefly before I lost all power and blew smoke...

As for my planned route. Well so much for re-building that block. Ive found a few long blocks for $900 minus the accessories and will probably go that route. Ill keep yall posted and updated on progress as well as gets some pics and attempt a write up when I drop in the new motor.

Also if ya need anything, that I wont need let me know as Ill start tearing it down this weekend.

Sadly, the oil pressure sensor included in our cars often only manifest themselves once it's too late. Getting an oil pressure gauge could have helped correctly monitoring engine health.

In the end, it still sucks.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Ouch. My thought at first was the timing belt. Probably a blown head gasket and engine coolant flew inside.

Good luck with the block swap, hopefully your problems never come back!

Excuse me while I act as a vulture. But I maybe interested in the cam and rocker arm assembly

Or the whole head to act as parts for anything
