Tranny.....same, but different?

Ok, so we have the F5M42 trans in our ralliart's; but thats also the same trans that is supposed to be in all the other lancers(except evo); but according to at lesat one website ( http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...11/172656.html ) our gearing is different. So did mitsu change the gears in our trans and call it the same or is it something ralliart which is a seperate entity (i think) did. I guess I'm confiused.

Please restate your question.

The trans in a regular Lancer vs. a Ralliart is different. Why are you worried about your trans?

The gears have to be different to handle the extra power. Mating a tranny intended for a 120 hp car to a 162 hp car would create many a problem

I'm curious to know because I plan on doing some modifications later in the car's life and I want to know what is in it before I start modifying. I don't want to beef up the engine, put on a turbo and get 320 hp out of it and try to drive it if the tranny won't take it. I prefer to build up my cars completely, thus I would replace the trans with a evo trans (or as such) if it's not strong enough, get stronger half shafts, a really good clutch, etc. I just want to know where I'm starting from.

Is that possible? hmmm I'd go for it if it would work...and I'd hate to see the bill for that one...

04 Lancers (including RA) don't have room underneath to fit AWD components I heard. The 02-03s do.

funny, the japanese models have a turbo and all wheel drive (same hp with turbo though so no big deal...)
I wouldn't mind the awd though...sucks we can't get it.

The F5M42 is also used on the 4 cylinder 3G Eclipse (2.4L 3000+ pounds). Additionally, 1.8L mirages have been pushing far more than 120hp on that tranny for years (including a few 200 + wheel hp mirages with the stock F5M42 tranny).
