Stuck at 4000rpm

!!!!!!Look im really tired of searching google, ask, the evolution forums and not coming up with what my problem really is.!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres the problem: I unhooked my battery to reset the ECU then, I replaced the air filter on my SRI. The filter that was on it was pretty banged up and had a small hole in it. I also put some fuel treatment into my gas at a bit over 3/4 of a tank. After all said and done, my car will no longer go above 4000rpm in any gear or park or neutral. Once it gets to 4000 rpm it stutters very badly and jerks a lot. Also once i started it up, the idle was jumping around from 500-1000 rpm. I have disconnected the battery and made sure my MAF was clean and the intake had nothing in it. Yet im still stuck with the problem.
Ive also tried going back to the old Airfilter that was on it, and it yielded in no results.

you may have shorted out the sensor,

my speed sensor shorted once, at first only speedometer wasnt working, then all my gauges shut off on the high way =/
sensors shorting out and breaking are a big pain

anyways are you sure the cable going from the MAF to the ECU is intact and wasnt damaged inadvertently during your maintenance? thats the only thing i could think of if you're sure MAF is good to go and clean

Its an 2006, should still be under warranty, put the stock airbox back in, see if it still has that problem and bring it to the dealer and say it just happened...

Your car is in limp mode. There should be a CEL associated with it, you need to pull that code.

So before i left this morning, i did a full check over of my car. Checked any plug, wire and hose with in arms reach. I ran over every wire plug and tube to make sure there where no cracks, holes or pinched tubes, freyed, pinched, lose or cut wires. Made sure all any plug or connection where secure.

Okay so then i hit my local autozone store today and got the codes pulled.
P0102, P0136.
The first one has to do with my MAF, code 2 has to do with my "oxygen sensor 2" in bank 1. Went home and replaced my stock/original air intake and filter back on the car, and drove that down town and back 45 miles total round trip. Nothing changed.
I have also noticed when i hit the gas i hear a single click sound, almost like 2 metal parts smacking together.
Yes its under waranty, but warranties in reno dont mean jack poop you still have to pay for parts and labor when it comes to certain parts. Unluckly the parts im having problems with are not covered in warranty.
So around here in reno its pretty much agreed we do not take our cars to the dealership to get anything fixed. They'll screw you on parts and labor.

I how ever do have a friend who's dad has been a mechanic for a good 30+ years. He has agreed to help me out as much as possible. I will post back tomorrow after I visit his shop and keep you all updated.

I would like to thank all you guys for suggestions, options, and help.

Just a thought but get a new MAF from the dealer or autozone an plug it up an see if it solves it. If it dont take it back. It could eliminate some hassle an you can count that out at least...
An i know it sounds stupid but check your gas cap..

I did happen to come across a Mitsubishi OEM parts retailer. So if worse comes to worse I can order new parts from there site. For a decient price over all 200+ shipping and tax. Gonna call tomorrow. I would post the site but im not sure. If that is okay here.

There are two online resellers (I've ordered from both), but one of them has much better service and prices than the other. www.mitsubishiparts.net is the one I recommend. Also, their parts counter guy has an account here and checks in regularly.

Thanks very much everyone.
I visited my friends dad, he pin pointed the culpirt "MAF". He told me to hit an auto wrecker. Just my luck i got there and they had just pulled up with with an 06 or 07 galant. Cracked Engine block or something like that. They crossrefernced my part to the galant. Piggety pow it worked. Payed 80 dollars for it.
Oh and by the way the clicking sound i heard, was a pair of pliers on the driver side part of the engine pay clanking against the hood .
So after 24 hours with out sleep, and finally getting my car to work, i bid adu.
