going turbo, but have some questions

ok so i have tried searching this but didnt find anything usefull...i plan on turboing my auto RA and i remember a little while talking rob about it and he said that id have to do some modification for it to work, but he never said what i needed to do, so my question is, what do i have to do to make it work, what kind of modifications is he talking about, and i also plan on buying the headers and downpipe from rrm, will that be a waste of money cause ill be getting the turbo manifold, will i be able to keep my CAI or will it not be needed...tip and advise would be much appretiated...thanks

ok, so ive decided that i want to build a custom turbo, so i have a few questions, which size turbo is recommended for our engines, cause im looking at HKS turbos and there are many different sizes, so im not sure which one would be the best for our car, plus i need a list of everything needed...i know it will probably cost alot more than just buying the RRM kit, but the way i look at it, i want to be individual with how my car is set up, so if anyone could please give me a list of EVERYTHING i will need to start this project, that would be much appreatiated...

No offense but if you're asking us to give you a list of what is needed then you need to stop looking into buying stuff and start researching. Building your own turbo kit, or even getting a pre-packaged turbo kit has a lot more to it than just getting a list of parts and such... No one on here will throw you a list of what you need, you'll have do search around yourself, do research. The only types of questions that will be answered like this is more technical questions that show that you have background knowledge of it.

Sorry to bash on you specifically but there are too many people that come on here and expect answers, lists and results without doing the proper research.

Evom.net has everything you need to build your own turbo as far as research and knowledge. You just have to look around, take a notebook for notes and start researching.

Just a heads up for the intercooler piping, you can probably buy some universal piping off ebay and using the rubber elbows/bends you can mock up your own piping routing instead of getting it custom.. just one way to cut costs in my opinion... I think that's the way Dangerousdan was going to do it when he was looking into turbo'in.

Another tip would be to look in the base lancer forums, a lot of them have gone turbo and a lot of them are guru's at the concept. Not too many RA guys go custom, and if so its no where near as many compared to lancer guys.

Um, I think it'd be a really bad idea for you to build a custom setup. It's not even remotely easy. I'm guessing that you're not a welder/metal worker, and don't have a good understanding of how fuel works on our car and what you need to do to control a turbo. Save up and go with RRM's kit. If there's anything that needs to be modified, it's probably an issue of clearing your transmission.

IMO, though, your best option would be to sell the car and buy a SRT-4.
