04 ralliart alternator

My alternator is about to go.. I CAN FEEEL IT. Ive had my subs in my car for roughly the past 30,000 kms and the car has 79,000 kms. Mitsubishi of course wants somewhere in between $400-$500 for one. I was looking online and came across this.. http://www.racepages.com/parts/alter...hi/lancer.html anyone have any experience with changing a alternator for these cars? The one on that website is going for $127.94 Letme know.

You can feel it? If your battery light isn't coming on, then your alternator is still putting out enough power to handle everything. OE alternator is $205 from Mitsubishiparts.net. List price is $270. Whomever told you $500 was looking up the wrong one.

If you want a rebuilt, might as well just buy one from your local auto parts store, that way you have a place to return it to if it goes bad prematurely and you can get your core charge back more quickly.

Our alternator should be really easy to change, since it's right there at the front of the engine.

Damn, my battery light is off but my check engine light just came on. Possible alternator problem? Lol I said I can feel it because my car has died twice in the past 2 weeks about 2 minutes after turning it on. So im just assuming its my alternator.

$4-500? Canadians get ripped off.

If you have some sort of wild sound system I'd look into an Optima battery. Even though you may not be playing your system much with the car not running, an Optima won't discharge as quickly and thus won't present as much a load to your alt to keep it charged. Also search for a high output alternator too.

why don't you uninstall your stereo system and take it in under warranty?

First off, alternator is a wear item, no warranty past 12,000 miles. Secondly, that's dishonest and simply a retarded idea.

Lol okay well here in edmonton it worked for me. Just trying to save the guy some coin. My bad. If you want to talk about dishonesty let's talk about the dealerships. They will try and rob you any chance they get.

Dishonest yes, retarded no. Dealerships steal from small people like me everyday, I would have no problem doing that.

Wait, so the dealership where you are going to has stolen from you? But you're going to let them work on your car some more? That is retarded.

Or are you just saying that somebody somewhere got ripped off by some other dealership, so that gives you the right to steal from these totally unrelated people?

Nope. Still retarded and dishonest.

Just little things like one time i took my car in because the my power locks wouldn't lock or unlock the driver side rear door. I left it there so they could look at it after they told me it was under warranty only to find out later that when they tried it, it worked for them first try. Then they charged me their "minimum half hour labour charge" of $70 and all they did was press the lock button. I didn't mean to sound like a crook with the alternator thing...

Standard procedure, get used to it. Regular mechanic shops go by the hour too. Its just the way things are. Automotive isn't the only place they round up by the hour.

Anyways this thread is utterly off topic.

Get an optima battery and possibly a cap if you need one. You know your battery might be going out or you might have a loose terminal somewhere that is intermittent. Check the voltage across your battery then check it across your alternator and see what its putting out.
