Oil Temperature Sending Unit

I have been looking around for anyone else having the issue of a leaking oil plug when using the autometer sending unit for the oil temperature on the oil pan drain plug. I have tried oem crush washers, nylon washers, Teflon tape, and nothing seem to work. So i figured there has to be another place to stick this sending unit. I found a thread on the evo section of this forum, and it said to put the unit in a 8mm hex screw hole. (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...e-senders.html). I wouldn't think the that this part of the car would be much different on the evo then on the ralliart. I cannot find this hex bolt, like the guy is talking about in the thread. I found a different screw that is bigger than half inch below the oil filter. Its mounted at an angle out from the base of the oil filter. I ended up taking this off and found there was a spring inside. So i screwed it back on, and i am here now. Does anyone have any info on this, will that plug work that i unscrewed? do i need the spring? or is there a better place to mount this sending unit. Also i have a oil pressure gauge that is in place of the stock oil pressure plug. Thanks in advanced.

well guys, i think i found out what the problem is. I didnt alittle more research and found out that auto meter only ships NPT (National Pipe Thread) threaded oil pressure units with there gagues. Well if you have a foreign car, then the oil pan hole will most likely be BSPT (British standard pipe thread). I found a converter on glowshifts website that goes from NPT inside, so the sending unit will fit in, and the outside is the bspt threads. The difference is about 1/27 thread per inch between the american and foreign thread. That is why the plug that came with it screwed in, but leakead alittle bit. Hope this can help anyone out that is having leaking issues with auto meter gagues.

you betchya, that is exactly the problem, if you use NPT brass fittings in the block you could damage the threads, also that not might not be tapered, and BSPT is tapered.
