resonator question

i have an annoying rasp on my RA, just trying to find the right solution to get rid of it.

(background on ride)
3.5 outlet Megan Exhaust
2.5 custom exhaust piping
OBX Headers & DP

the combination of these give the car a nice deep growl tone, minus the rasp.

i tried to research this topic on here but could not find it. if any of the moderators find it and decide to cancel this thread, please let me know where i can find it.

do u have a resonator on it at all?
if it doesnt it may be the answer...

also did u change the whole exhaust at once, or in parts?
if u did it in parts then u can backtrack to when the rasp started and see what u did to change it

Your exhaust setup is great for a turbo ralliart but terrible for an NA setup. The 2.5" piping is part of the problem ,although the obx headers/downpipe that deletes the cat is the main reason for the rasp. I would install a high flow catalytic converter and a 22" or the largest resonator you can find. I have the magnaflow 22" and it helped deepen the tone.

Here are some related threads that might help.

Exactly what he said Personally ( I think I'm getting old!) I wanted my loud exhaust gone but also get rid of the rasp. An exhaust shop just took of the 3.5 muffler I had and put on a turbo muffler. Sounds soooo much better and quite haha.

I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but it really feels like I gained some torque back. Not sure if a muffler can have that much of an effect though.

You and me both Darewood (in reference to getting old) I went to put my oem downpipe on to see how it would sound/quiet it down a little and it got stolen for the metal/catalytic converter, another missed opportunity to use "The Judge"

it my help to get a longer one...but i can't say how long would be necessary honestly...
IIRC the oe one is ~18in long...
and i know cherrybomb sells(or sold...i don;t know if they still make it) a glasspack muffler that can probably work as a resonator that's like 2.5ft long...but thay may be too long to fit...either way i'm not guaranteeing it'll help...

ps: IIRC somewhere on this forum i remember reading sumn about the obx/rrm headers and downpipe giving a bit of rasp because of the cat removal...

maybe a hiflow cat would help?..again....no guarantee it'll help

I think the rrm one is magnaflow , vibrant makes good stuff too. Do some searching in some Honda forums , if it quiets down a Honda it will help a mitsu

i'm not 100%, but i would guess any brand hi-flow cat you get would basically be the same...since should be a cat should be a cat should be a cat(meow)...
and since u have the obx dp ull likely have to drill and weld on bungs for the 02's...

i still have my virgin oe exhaust so i would'nt be the authority on exhaust but it shouldnt matter what brand it is IMO...
i'd think most manufacturer's buy from the same few suppliers anyway...so internally they should all be the same, if not very similar..
