TTP-Engineering Tunes the 2009 Ralliart 4b11

With the recent release of the 2008 Evo X's little brother the Lancer Ralliart, it was only a matter of time before one of your fellow Evolutionm.net vendor's got their hands on one for some testing.

We are happy to announce that we had the pleasure of working on one of the first 2009 Lancer Ralliarts in the area.

We have completed testing on our ZChip Tuning Module for the Evo X GSR 5sp and MR thus far and results have been spectacular on these models. The GSR 5sp testing has netted results of up to +107whp over stock with the ZChip and additional boost. +50whp and +51wtq on just the ZChip alone on STOCK boost.

The SST transmission equipped MR Evo X has also allowed whp and tq gains over stock in limited quantities as the SST ECU torque protection limits the gains able to be achieved before the clutches lose traction.

Our suspicions were that the Lancer Ralliart (RA) would have similar torque protection and we have confirmed it in our testing thus far. The SST RA transmission will allow 30-45wtq gains before the clutch will slip as the ECU rejects torque over the limit allowed.

Here are some interesting pictures and hard data regarding the Lancer Ralliart / ZChip tuning process:

Going onto the AWD Mustang Dyno and getting the ZEITRONIX WIDEBAND installed for data acquisition.

Front shot of the Ralliart emblem and engine bay ready for the ZChip installation.

Engine bay looks the same as the 2008 Evo X outside of the black engine cover, the battery in the engine bay, unique intake routing and single BCS solenoid.

Here is the ZEITRONIX DATALOG of the stock AFR, BOOST, etc. Its very notable that based on the load cells being accessed by the boost level run in stock form with the Ralliart, the air-fuel ratio is MUCH IMPROVED over the stock 2008 Lancer Evolution X. It seems as if the Mitsu Engineers had enough time to get this car running well before it went to market. The same cannot be said for the 2008 Evo X which in our opinion was rushed to market before it was ready.

Here is a Mustang Dyno screen shot of the boost, WHP, WTQ readings along with CANBUS acquired stock IGNITION TIMING ADVANCE numbers.

Here is the same datalog with the IGNITION TIMING ADVANCE selected. Notice the Ralliart runs 30-31* peak ignition timing advance at 120 KPA.

Stock baseline peak whp and tq numbers.

Post ZChip tuned power and tq figures. You should also note that peak to peak whp gains were notable, what is more impressive are the gains under the curve which were about 35-40whp.

Here is the overlay of stock to ZChip tuned graphs demonstrating the area under the curve. The spike in torque seen in the sheet is the SST torque protection kicking in for a few hundred RPMs at peak torque and returning to normal at about 3700rpms.

great stuff, can you expand on turque protection? is it based on how quickly torque comes up before its limited or somthing else?

Stock 217whp, not bad. 243whp after just a tune isnt bad at all. Hopefully we'll be able to pick up a couple more with a new exhaust. Did you guys try messing with the boost at all?

From what I am hearing from TTP, there is not much sense to go with more boost since the trans is already shutting down with what they have already done. Still impressive though. Hopefully 2010 will bring the manual for the RA.

This will be the killer. A 5sp lightweight 4b11T Ralliart.

The best part is, it looks like this is about all the trans can take, so this is the only engine mod you really need!! And cheap!!

You will notice that peak whp is 5547rpms in stock form, however with tuning it is now at 6287rpms.

The car really rips on the top end now.
