Rearview camera for Sportback
The tailgate portion is different since the instructions were meant for the trunk so I followed the existing wires that leads to the tailgate.
The hardest part is going to the tailgate with the rubber tube

. From there I lead it to the license plate lights.. There's about a foot of slack left since I was worried about not having enough when I install the camera (which won't be in until next week).Everything works, the MMCS recognizes the camera harness when I go into reverse. Guidelines and safety warning pops up except it doesn't show video because the camera hasn't been install

Here are the instructions I followed but unplug the neg (--) cable from your battery as you are going to deal with the rear passenger side airbags when routing to the tailgate.

Forgot to mention MZ380461EX is the Outlander's camera used for the tailgates....
DO NOT USE MZ380462EX - it's design to be flush to the sedan trunk and not angle for the tailgate.
I will confirm the Outlander's camera next week after the installation.
MMNA confirmed MZ380461EX goes into the 2012 Lancer and for the ones overseas but I'll be the guinea pig for the sportback owners =)

Thanks for the followup, Texas325. Were you able to find a good deal on the Outlander camera? From a quick search, it looks like MitsubishiPartsPeople in WA has the best deal at $217. Thanks!

Sorry been busy this past month to post a full system install. Got the camera installed and it works perfectly. However there's a little modification of where should be installed. If I had to do it over again - take it to professional. Overall it does what it should - covers the area below the rear window.

Texas325, thanks for the pics. I just got the parts today. I guess because the camera p/n was for the Outlander, those are the instructions I got. Did you get Sportback (or at least Lancer) instructions? The Outlander instructions ask to route along the passenger side of the car, which I think is opposite of Lancer. What's the modification on the installation location, and what was the toughest part?
Texas325, how did you get into the rear view marker setting mode?
I got mine done about a week ago. The grommet going into the tailgate wasn't too bad for me after I applied some wax to the harness, and I was pleasantly surprised how none of the clips broke. I never quite figured out the correct order of removing the C pillar trim with respect to the side of the trunk trim, but I was able to get enough access to route through.
My main problem was the drilling of the sheetmetal. I think I see what you mean now. The template isn't quite lined up for our hatch. There's only a small zone where the camera would fit through the license plate garnish properly yet avoid the license plate lamp and the stud for mounting the garnish. I was off by a bit which meant I had to dremmel down the garnish plate a bit and also trim away a bit of the license plate lamp plastic. I'm not quite happy with how the "jack nut" gets exposed a bit when looking from the underneath, and I also lost quite a bit of time due to dropped parts in between the sheetmetal stampings. I'm curious as to whether Mitsubishi will come up with a Sportback specific part with an adjusted drilling template.
