Undercoating

Harsh winters here. Has anyone undercoated or had their car undercoated? If so, does anyone know approximately how much weight it added?

Thanks

Under coating is like an oil spary unless u mean the rubber stuff. Either way its only a few pounds and what you eat will more likely affect your cars performance, if thats what your worried about.

I'm not sure but i believe calgary is like winnipeg and they rarely use salt so you should be fine.

^ Pretty common misconception... About 15 years ago, Calgary used very little salt. Now, we use quite a bit. Very close to the level that Ottawa uses(One of the higher in Canada). Unfortunately along side a fart load of gravel. I didn't know Winnepeg used little salt. Thought they'de be like to rest of the east.

I'm interested in undercoating too. Why there are no oil spray services in calgary, i will never know. Ontario has them on every corner. The salt protection is a big issue, but i wouldnt mind a little road noise reduction too.

The car is getting it done today. I'm getting the entire front end rock guarded along with the rocker pannels and part way up the rear fenders. I'm also getting it undercoated along with rust protection in the doors. I did my research and got a killer deal here in Calgary. If you're interested, I will let you know about the quality when I get it back. But ya, I ended up paying half what other places were quoting me.

Ok...so to rock guard the front end alone is $480 for the places I looked at, including this one. But I worked it out to get the front end rock guarded along with the rocker panels and up the back fender (widest part of the car). They clay barred a couple stains for me and did some touch up work (minor). I also had them undercoat and apply rust guard (which is typically $230-250 for each at places). I paid $599 for all of this, whereas other places were quoting me well over 1,000. I realize that 599 is still a lot, but I want to protect it, given that Calgary is a very harsh environment.

i'm located in northern ontario and get mine done at Krown rust control they offer a warranty on the paint once it is done but you need to keep getting it done yearly for the warranty to be active.

I've heard that from a few places in ontario. Oil spray does work though. My brother in Ottawa is religious with semi anual oil spraying (whatever you choose to call it) and keeps his cars for 6-8 years and always sells a rust free car. Thats a tough thing to find there. $100-$200 a year seems a bit excessive though.

Delaers are selling these electronic Rust prevention systems now with 10 year warranties. I beleive it is a Cathodic Protection system running through the chassis. Theory is there for sure. Can't say if it works well in an automotive application though.

http://hyattdetail.com/ Hyatt Detail (right in the Saab Dealership) next to Hyatt Mitsubishi. Ask for Rob (At least I'm pretty sure his name is Rob. If that is not his name, ask for the guy that is usually only there in the mornings haha)...he'll remember the deal he gave me because it was only a few days ago

The electronic rust control module is a worthless piece of **** we have it on our SUV and there is rust starting on the back quarter and low and behold bring it to the paint shop at ford and they said well you didn't pay for the rust protection. I said to them well what the hell did i pay $699.00 for they still can't answer my question. It is in the hands of a company called symtech they had to come up from Sault Saint Marie to take pictures of it and are supposed to get back to me still havent heard ***t last time i ever pay money for garbage. At least when you undercoat with Krown they warranty the paint because it stops it dead in it's tracks. And it only costs $120.00 Just figured id tell my story to you.

Thanks for sharing that. I have yet to hear any feedback of anyone having rust start after the Elec rust mumbo jumbo was installed. Keep us informed on weather the Symtec outfit covers your rust. Sorry to hear. I hate rust.
