Headliner Rattle
Headliner Rattle
After switching my exhaust from DC Sports to Magnaflow my car devloped a brutal rattle above the drivers said head in the headliner. Between 1,500 - 1,750 is vibrates loud, when you place your hand on the headliner it stops. It is driving me insane, the dashboard & glovebox rattles too, which I can put up with but the headliner is so loud that people can hear it in the back seats.
Has anyone else had this issue? did you have to pull the headliner and put some dynamat down or something?

Im stock and have a slight rattle there as well. I have a moon roof so the liner is lower but sounds like its in the same spot as yours.
I think stick on felt would be a lot cheaper and lighter to try on the edges of the liner that are in contact with the roof. The stick on felt is also good for the door panel and dash vibrations. If you do pull it down take some pictures.

Just to give you a heads up if you decide to do this, you pretty much have to take out everything inside the car including rear seat, front seats, and center console. That was the only way that I could get the headliner out without bending/destroying it. If you are just going to Dynamat it and call it a day, then all you should have to do is drop it down and just make sure you don't sit on it when putting up the Dynamat. You will have to remove all of the pillars, the dome lights and the grip handles.

Maybe see if an exhaust shop can do something for you to change the resonance of the exhaust like welding in a resonator or something like that before you go tearing apart the interior.....that's my opinion anyway.
I do not think it has to do with the volume of my new exhaust. The Magnaflow seems to be quiter than the DC Sports. The rattle/vibration seems to get worse as it gets colder out, when it's -15 or colder it constantly vibrates

It was an absolute pain, but I am completely happy with the results. I dropped it because I had it wrapped in black suede. While I had it out, I figured I might as well line the roof with Dynamat which helped improve the overall sound inside the car.
Re-read my post! I never said anything about the "volume". I'm talking about the resonance/frequency of the sound waves that might be changed slightly with the addition of a resonator in the exhaust, and it might just be enough to stop the vibration of the interior plastics.
