GST base map without TBE

I recently purchased a 2010 ralliart and it came with an AEM Cold Air Intake. As far as I can tell that's all that's been done to the car and I'm not sure if it's been tuned or not.

So here's the problem. After installing my boost gauge and my wideband the next thing on my list was an ecu remap with a boost pill. I was planning on using the Stock RA + Boost Pill GST map however the cold air intake complicates that. The GST map with the AEM intake requires a TBE.

So I guess my question is will the GST re map with AEM cold air intake, boost pill, and the TBE work with just the intake and the boost pill on the stock exhaust or will I have to buy a TBE first? Eventually I plan on getting dyno tuned but I was hoping to do full bolt ons before that.

I suggest getting a stock airbox if you can. Then apply Stock RA + Boost Pill map.

Or dyno tune it with what you have. Get all parts you want and dyno tune it again.

That is my best advise.

To be safe - use the version with TBE. It will run rich (because the engine won't flow as well as it would with a TBE) as evidenced by the increased soot on the tail pipe.

Using the GST "stock" but actually with a cold air intake (which flows more air than stock) could cause the car to run too lean (which for a turbo car is badbadbad...).

Best course of action (IMHO) is get the TBE. Now you can use a free tune AND enjoy the benefit of even more performance than you would if you spent the TBE money on a custom tune.

I was sort of in the same boat, I went the other direction though, I used the boost pill only map while I had the AEM intake, risky I know but I was leaning on the fact that they are general maps and are likely on the rich side for a bit of extra safety plus the ECU should be able to compensate to a point. Have had no issues and it has been 3 years but I also have no data so it's a risk either way really.

Maybe try both and with the TBE map if you're getting a lot of black smoke most of the time you're way too rich and I would try the pill only map.

I have purchased a down pipe and cat pipe so I'll be going up to the TBE boost pill and AEM map. Looking forward to it 😆

WAIT you have a wide band? So you have an AFR... Just try the maps and see which one keeps it in the rich but not too rich range and stay away from lean.

Optimal air/fuel ratio is 14.7 (I'm assuming it's digital) anything higher is lean... Lean is bad, burn a hole in your piston bad.

This is bad advice the way you stated it. Stoich is 14.7 which is what the ECU will shoot for during idle and cruise (via fuel trims), at WOT fueling is open loop and the car should be running high 10, low 11 AFR.

14.7 at WOT will melt things very quickly.

OP if you want to run the AEM basemap without a TBE, try it out and let me know what the AFR is. Do you have the ability to log the car?

It wasn't bad advice, at worst it was incomplete, but thanks for chiming in to clarify, and at WOT I wouldn't go below 11 AFR too much power loss.

I'll let the person who developed these base maps know your tuning advice. Oh wait, you just told him.

I'm well aware of who I'm talking to, and you're not unlike most tuners I've dealt with.

Incomplete advice is bad advice to me. The way you posted it could have led to misunderstanding and thinking fueling at WOT should be 14.7.

I stepped in to clarify your incomplete advice.

Look forward to seeing what kind of value you will add to the community moving forward.

I did thank you for clarifying, and I swear I wrote 12 at WOT but must have wrote over it, I'm not an idiot, just a mistake/typo and your clarification came off kind of demeaning.

I don't want to start a war, which is always far too easy on forums.
