Quick Tuning Newbie Question

So I plan on getting my Ralliart tuned, just some newbie questions maybe one day can be stickied for future noobs:

Dafuq is tuning?

Do I need a special tuner because I have an SST transmission?

What tuners do you recommend? I heard AMS, but what difference is it between some other tuner?

Cobb Tuning? Custom Tune? What do those mean? Can someone explain that to me?

Also explain E-Tuning?

Those are basic question, how about google? Just dont run in a random tuning shop, u need a professional mitsubishi tuner. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/09...ogle-maps.html

I agree, you should spend an hour google searching words like "ralliart sst tuning evoscan" and combinations of those.

The SST makes tuning our cars very delicate. You can find recommended tuners on this forum. Custom tunes are for bigger mods. Cobb/GST are for a starter tune. They are amazing and very inexpensive.

E-tuners, such as Golden Evo, will ask the Rallart owner to log with evoscan software and tactrix cable and then email them to him. He will then email back a revised tune.

So my car is basically stock minus some mods the original owner put in:

Evo X FMIC
Evo X UICP
HKS LICP
Some SRI
HKS SSQV BOV

Should I be going for a custom tune or this cobb thing you're talking about? Do I just buy the cobb device and plug it in and click stage 1 or something?

Also in regards to a boost pill, if i put in one I'll need a custom tune right?

If I were you, I would remove the "some SRI" and put in factory air box back in with a nice filter. Then buy $30 boostpill and a used tactrix cable for about $120. With a FREE GST tune, you will be running a better/faster tune than Cobb 1 for a lot cheaper.

You don't need a custom tune for your current mods.(some would argue you should with that intake) If you install a boostpill, you DO need a tune.

The GST Tunes, that's the free maps at the stickied threads in this topic right?

I would need the GST boost pill as well right and then download the correct software with that as well from the sticky?

Also the GST tune is a tune right? So if I waned to squeeze that extra bit of power from my car and be done with it this is the way to go?

What's the difference between this and a custom tune?

Also the original owner put the SRI in and the car runs fine, along with a BOV that vents to air so im not sure if they already tuned it, and im also not sure if the GST tune will account for changes in air because of the non recirculation

A custom tune is starting to sound like the best route for you. It's safe and expensive. Your mods are creating too many "red flags" for me to suggest anything else.

I'm in the process of getting an E-Tune with Golden Evo. I'll write up a review when he's done and go through the whole process of how it performs and was it worth the money.

Albert, The GST tune thread should have answered all your questions.

It's a free set of tunes created by Bryan (razorlab) and tweaked and fine tuned by Richardjh along with the RA community to make the stock ralliart perform like it should of from the factory. (Better shifting and a little more power)

You do not need a boost pill if you load the non-boost pill version. With your current mod's though, I would get custom tune to be safe.

If you are willing to go the upgrade path necessary, GST all the way! What a difference it has made for me. Keeping up and even schooling some of the Evo guys.
