So I just had a Do Luck FRP trunk installed on my 2011 RA and it looks great! However, the auto body shop that did the install said I need new trunk shocks that support 15-20 lb. aftermarket trunks. Apparently, the stock trunk shocks are incompatible with lighter-weight aftermarket trunks. Does anyone know where I can buy these aftermarket trunk shocks? Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to use the stock struts. The body shop just doesn't want any liability if the trunk cracks from the stress. The mount points are there because they were designed to reuse the OEM parts.
However, if you're hell-bent on replacing them, I would try contacting OEM manufacturers of hood/trunk/hatch struts. If you have the dimensions and part numbers off your stockers, they should be able to tell you if such a part exists. Sachs, Stabilus, Monroe, StrongArm, SUSPa are a few brands that sell OEM-replacement struts.

 

did the stock trunk come with the adjustable rubber grommets on it? that's the only way i can imagine you would be able to adjust it. the CF trunk should have holes to transfer all the stock parts over.

 

have you played with the adjustment? the brackets have some play all the way around so you can adjust the shut lines perfectly

 

Is it a genuine Do-Luck part?

 

To get my cf trunk on my 8 to fit I had to remove the torsion bars. The trunk will not stay up now but I don't mind it too much. I was thinking about fabbing up some kind of brackets to use dampers. I probably will never get to it haha

Yeah I've read a few threads about removing the torsion or tension bars as a possible fix. But such removal is usually accompanied by the usage of a trunk lift kit. Anyone know if such kits exist for late models (2011)?

Cause not NEVER have I installed or know someone with a Legit trunk have issues with install along with fitment.

 

Yeah, for what they cost, there shouldn't be issues. Knockoff trunks often don't sit right, they have terrible panel gap, and they don't work with stock mounts. It is rare that a legit trunk would have issues.

 

As mentioned, are you sure you bought an actual do-luck trunk or a replica? The reps have been known to have various fitment issues, especially sitting high. Different struts are not necessary. There are rubber bumpers under the trunk on the rear quarter panels that you can thread into the car further to help it sit a little lower.
