Ya know after reading this over and over and over again its getting old..

When will a vender take the time to buy one and test the freaking thing, this will put everything to an end...until then this will go on and on and on..

Why would a vendor waste their time with that? This is generally the obligation of the manufacturer and this manufacturer could probably care less as long as it looks the part.

All we know about this IC is that it is heavier than stock (25lbs!) and doesn't fit well. I wouldn't be surprised if the stock unit has better flow, less pressure drop and was better at reducing charge temps.

Until proven otherwise this IC is all show and could even potentially hurt performance. It needs to be grouped with "what's the loudest BOV?", LED washer sprayers and under body lighting.

Yeah, really. The onus is not on AMS and BR to test this. The onus is on the manufacturer, but do they ever do testing? No. They copy a part so that people will buy it and then go online telling everyone how smart they are...

David,

I appreciate your comments. I am not very mechanically inclined at all so I am not able to comment too much more than that. I looked at my Defi Boost gauge after install and full boost and my boost was the same as it was before (don't know what that means but that is how I came to that conclusion). I have no doubt their are better intercoolers on the market today but this one is better than stock and that is what I was looking for. I will be upgrading the unit when I upgrade the turbo. If anything I said is false then I apologize as I am not knowledgable enough about the subject to say with any certainty.

Even if the Ebay one is "good" I gaurantee you there are better ones on the market, gaurantee. Also your statement "very little pressure loss (none to be exact) is absolutely false. There has to be SOME pressure loss through the core. I am sure you did not measure inlet/outlet pressures when you installed the intercooler and logged them properly throughout the RPM band. I am not yelling or fighting with you but your statement is false and misleading.

Yeah, in the 1/8th, wheee!!! Yet, his new 1/8th mph is slower than my 1/8th mph trap with less mods on the stock FMIC. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Nope, pump gas. I ran 7.76@88.5 with the good ole WT package on 93oct with a plain ole mail-in Dynoflash. With race gas, it was 7.63@90.7 (same tune on the very next run). The driving may have been better than yours, but driving doesn't necessarily create mph. The real point here is that your rise in mph at the 1/8th could be for tons of reason - you can't give the credit to the FMIC. From one run to the next, my mph fluctuates as much as 2mph in the 1/8th depending on conditions, the launch, shift points, etc. For you, this wasn't an increase between runs - it was an increase on a completely different day, and the 87mph is where you should have been anyway if trapping 112. The only way to trap 85 in the 1/8th on an Evo that traps 112 in the 1/4 is to screw up or not know where to shift (or both).

Like I said I am only an average, maybe slightly above average driver. You are correct there are many factors that go into it. When I upgrade my turbo I will have a dyno test with this cooler on and the new one from the shop of my choice and have some real proof, until then I guess its all butt dyno talk which I do not like to do, hence why I posted trap speeds and not I think this thing gave me XX HP. Thats all I am going to say on this, just posted my thoughts on the subject.

Having been going down this road for a while, I would say this. Drag racing, and dyno queens could probably get by with this 'knock-off'. However, in an opentrack situation, where you are running WOT for 30m at a time, I guarantee it couldn't match the ability to maintain a cool charge like the AMS or BR units.

I ran into a guy with an STi who was testing a Ebay intercooler vs the stocker which mounted on top of the engine. At the end of the day, the EBay unit couldn't match the ability of the stock unit, which was mounted over the motor, to keep the charge cool for long runs on track. I can't remember the exact numbers (he had a temp gauge before and after the intercooler, and was monitoring A/F with a wide-band as the charge temp rose to see how the tune changes. But it was substaintial after about 10m on the track. The test was done at Road Atlanta, which is pretty hard on cars and engines.

As a result, he said for a stock turbo car, the the tune didn't change much but with a large turbo, he would be scared to run an Ebay unit in an open-track situation due to it's inability to keep the charge cool and at a stable temp for long runs.

Just my .02.

Alright, if you installed it and the boost gauge read the same as it did before you installed it that right there will tell you it has atleast 2-3 psi pressure drop across the core. The reason I say this is if you install any of our 3 intercoolers the boost will go up, because there is less pressure drop across the core with our intercoolers.

BTW, over in AMS vendor section there is a topic about this, someone already posted the link in this thread. Evolutionary did test it and found it to be inferior to the STOCK intercooler. Go over and check it out.
